Anybody have advice for getting Google Maps working again?

I have the same problem. How did you downgrade to an earlier version of google maps? Or downgrade to an earlier version of any app for that matter? And will a 2023 version of google maps work without google play services?

Uninstall your current version of google maps. Do it from every profile of the phone, otherwise you won't be able to downgrade.
In aurora store, on the google maps search result, you can either select Manual Download (or Manual install, I can't recall the exact name)
Insert the version that you want.
And yes the last version of 2023 works without google play!

Unfortunately it's the best maps app overall (depending on country though) and also has great traffic info.

It is garbage. Only showing you ads or sponsored places.

Waze would be the closest to gmaps. Its owned by g* and the two share a common database, which includes traffic based routing. Best thing is that Waze still works without gservices.

matchboxbananasynergy sorry for necroing and pinging. Today I found out my Google Maps cant pinpoint my location. When I asked for direction, it cant find my location.

Usually, I only have maps and Play Services with location permission while using the apps. Somehow today, that no longer works.

Some additional steps I tried to no avail

Giving play services location all the time
Giving play store location while using the app (the highest permission it has)
Turning off my VPN
Reinstalling Maps
Restarting my phone

None still worked :/ hope you could help. Btw i have sensors enabled for all of the above.

Even if I unfortunately can't offer a solution, I can at least confirm that Google Maps is correctly pinpointing my location with the following setup/settings:

Google Maps App info> Permissions> Network> Allowed
Settings> Location> Location for Private Space> on
Settings> Location> WiFi scanning, Bluetooth scanning, Network location> off/on (GrapheneOS proxy)
Settings> Location> SUPL> GrapheneOS proxy
Settings> Location> PSDS> GrapheneOS server
works with VPN on/off

Murcielago thanks for this! Idk which of these fixed it but it's working again. I dont even need to enable location on my play services (just network) and it all works again.

The only things different for me were the Bluetooth and wifi scanning were off. Everything else was the same. Oddly I never tinkered with those two options before. Oh well. Thanks again!

This sounds like your position was found via Network Location, maybe you have/had poor satellite reception. If a device is relying on GPS it may take some time to get reception - especially if the sky is covered (e.g. indoors).

Side note: If your only purpose is to use it for Network Location, you don't have to activate Bluetooth scanning as it's right now only using WiFi and not Bluetooth.

Another spot on observation! All this time I was using Maps outside and last night when it couldn't pinpoint my loc, I was indeed indoor. But after turning on wifi scanning, it worked again indoor.

Good to know about bluetooth scanning didnt do much so I just disabled it and everything still works. Thanks again
