Hello, I've been using GrapheneOS for a few years now and have always been able to use Google Maps with the sandboxed play services. Maps doesn't actually seem to require the play services, but the notifications asking you to install them are relentless when they arent installed lol.
Anyways, about a month ago or more I updated Google maps through the Aurora store and now the app is pretty much useless for navigation. The visual map which shows the route and all the roads no longer appears, and my position on the map seems to be either infrequently updated or not at all. I have tried clearing cache/storage, using the exploit protection compatibility mode, etc to no avail. I even got a new phone in the middle of all of this and set it up from scratch, and still have the same issue. I downgraded the app as well to a version from January 2024 and that didnt work either.
I have also tried Google Maps Go with the Maps Go Navigation app installed, but when i click the navigate button it doesnt do anything unless I have the play store installed, in which case it tries to take me to the play store even though I have the app installed already lol. I have also tried other commonly suggested map apps such as Magic Earth, Organic maps, etc, but I have found that none of them actually work well enough for my use case. I need to go all over the place for my job and I have wasted a lot of time trying to get all those other apps to bring me to the right place. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather use something like Magic Earth with a downloaded map and networking disabled, and it has gotten much better over the years, but I still need something more robust for my use case.
If anybody has any advice on this matter or another good maps app to recommend that works as well as gmaps, then please let me know.
Thanks!
