biscuit_tosser_88 The provider HAD to use a QR code to install, because it would NOT download to the phone.

Thanks for reporting back.
This last steep was without Google Play Services installed on your owner profile ?

This QR code to install again the eSIM, mean it's better to install the eSIM directly from GOS. I you go back to the stock OS maybe you will need this steep again. I wonder if this QR code is for a one time use, or if it can be copied to use it again for the same Pixel. I suppose it can't be used to migrate to another phone because I've heard some carrier charge the eSIM for the device change.

Yes, in fact, Google Play Services was installed in the owner profile when they used the QR code, but I don't know if it was needed or not.
They also gave me the new QR code and it's numbers on paper to use as a backup.

Latest eSIM experience on Pixel 8 Pro:
My private provider (jamobil in Germany) told me that their eSIM is not compatible with Pixel phones. They can only activate through their own app, where the all-important button wouldn't show up on Pixels. I did not try to prove them wrong and kept the physical SIM.
My company provided a Vodafone eSIM with QR-Code and eSIM-Code and this worked without a hitch: Google Services installed in private space (which was open at the time of activation) and wifi connection during the procedure.
    Hope this helps...
