DeletedUser28 Could this be solved if GOS ever came preinstalled on a device? (Maybe in a few years time.) Not with Google Play preinstalled, mind you, just with GOS as the Vendor ROM and therefore passing all checks.

The Google code checks whether the running system was signed by Google or one of Google's official partners (Samsung, etc.). It does not check whether the running system is preinstalled. The only way to pass Google's check for an authorized OS is for them to add you to their list.

App authors are free to accept additional OS stacks, but they would need to decide to do that.

Next best feature? For me, there are 2x missing features to which I keep coming back as missing (both features already in queue for development, though low priority):

app to backup all apps WITH app data (i.e., SeedVault replacement) - this one is key, because setup takes SOOO LONG otherwise (and vital data is occasionally lost), and SeedVault's current iteration is unreliable at best, and SwiftBackup (with Shizuku) might do a good job backing up app apks, call log and messages, but cannot backup app data; and
call recording button in the Phone app settings that allows one to set the default to record all calls, for those of us in one-party consent states (allowing a call recording management app, such as Skvalex's Call Recorder in system recorder mode, to fully manage all call recordings)

Internet permission : Some apps need network access locally or through WiFi but don't need internet. It would be fine to have a toggle to restrict internet access by app.
App Communication Scopes : This will be an huge thing for privacy.
Profile Communication Scopes : This will be to allow just selected apps to communicate through local network to apps from another profile.
The google music recognition : using a database stored on the Pixel.
Backup and expose files option : Through USB encrypted and unencrypted to share and sync things like contacts, pictures, music with a computer or an hard drive.

I do this via WiFi with KDEconnect and Nextcloud+DAVx5. I only use USB to flash firmware and charge the battery.

I heard that the devs were remaking the backup system themselves, so I hope that gets improved. With that work done, I hope they also make a feature to port your data to a new phone. I feel like a lot of that work would carry over, but what do I know lol.

Also a big one, please setup face unlock for Pixel 8 and other supported devices that are considered secure enough!

jroddev PWA sandboxing and always private browsing. The problem I have is that if I use private browsing then I need to re-login every time I launch the PWA. So I have disabled the 'always private' option and just launch incognito tabs whenever I am browsing direct in Vanadium. This has the problem that if I click on a link in another app then it is launch in a non-incognito tab.
The other problem with PWAs is that they are not sandboxed from each other. If I have 2 PWAs their cookies are in the same cookie jar.
If I'm in a Discord PWA and I click on a LinkedIn link it will direct me to a logged in LinkedIn page with credentials from my separate PWA.

You misunderstand how sandboxing and cookies work in Vanadium and even in Android more generally. PWAs are sandboxed in the same way as any other website in Vanadium. You can disable third party cookies in Vanadium settings.

All that is happening here is that the webpage in Discord is redirecting you to LinkedIn because you clicked a link that opens a link in LinkedIn, the same as opening a link on a website.

Discord can't read the cookies for LinkedIn, and LinkedIn can't read the cookies for Discord, that's not how things work.

If you don't want the link to redirect to your LinkedIn account where you are signed in, open the link in an incognito window.

Just to be certain, as a future GOS user, the OP has this wrong, and if you save discord (as per the example) as a pwa, you can use a different pwa (say LinkedIn as mentioned) and they will be treated to the same sandboxing as a regular tabs and in effect, a regular app. I got very confused by what they mentioned in their post. @treequell

Correct, PWAs are sandboxed in the same way as regular apps on Vanadium. PWAs aren't a specific feature to Vanadium or GrapheneOS. You can use them on an Android OS with a Chromium browser and they'll work essentially the same way. iOS also has support for PWAs, this is in no way specific to GrapheneOS.

long press power button when screen off = flashlight (silly but should be tiny code, default on LineageOS and as useful as the double press for camera)
different core SMS and Clock apps that are modern and have all features (clock misses hardware button control afaik, sms app is outdated)
restrict automatic launch of apps (this is so important)
restrict running in the background of apps completely
show disabled apps in the launcher
"system installed! Here is how you proceed" page after setting up the system.
- How to get apps (apps, accrescent)
- how to get the apps you actually need (f-droid basic, aurorastore)
- work profile setup for easier usage than user profiles (shelter)
- turning off mac address randomization for MAC-controlled networks, or to avoid DHCP cluttering in routers, which may break mesh setups etc.
- alternative keyboards (openboard, florisboard)
- alternative ... (simply a list of recommended secure apps, before they are hardened, compiled on GOS hardware and available through the Appstore)

in general exception buttons are not available for many things
autofill support, this is so necessary, or...

I think that some simple but nice additions would be:

Allow choosing the QuickStep provider (i.e. Lawnchair)
Lockscreen At-A-Glance support (either for Google or Smartspacer)
Bringing over the Cinematic Wallpaper feature (found on the Pixel 6-8 on A14)
Bringing over more lockscreen/homescreen customization options (like the lockscreen fonts/layouts and the monochrome monet theme)

Whilst all your enthusiasm for GrapheneOS and potential new features is appreciated, this thread appears to have morphed into some of you posting long lists of all the features which you are looking for, which I don't believe is quite what the OP intended. The original question was about which feature users would like to see implemented next.

Some of the other features requested are already possible, and there are others that seem to misunderstand how GrapheneOS and Android more generally works.
