I just posted this on reddit and got a notification to use this forum, so here we go.

Making the switch from to GOS, previously was using a Samsung phone.

My threat model/profile is low, just an average user who wants to take back a little control and be more careful with the data I give out to the tech giants.

I have installed GOS on a Pixel 10 Pro Fold (after spending a week with it on regular Google to see if I liked it - I did) and have so far setup Accrescent and Obtainium but yet to install any apps other than the automatic default ones. I will be using Google Play Services and Play Store to run apps sand boxed.

I have 2 Google accounts available I can use. One (PS1)was used for my old phone and my Lenovo tablet (current); the other (PS2) has only ever been used for media streamers (current), tv's (no longer used) and Android car head unit (current).

I have audited the apps I have previously used and separated them into two categories, private enough (CAT1) and poor privacy (CAT2). Unsurprisingly the latter category is mainly banking, government and other apps like uber that have a money component.

This does make containing them easy though as the poor privacy apps all have one thing in common, they are infrequently used (comparatively) and do not need to run in the background. Where as most of the apps in the other category either do need to run in the background to provide their function effectively, or at the least require to be readily available to the system.

NB: I do not use any social media apps or require any apps for work.

NB: I can reset tablet and reinstall with PS2 account if required, its only used for media consumption and web surfing.

I would appreciate comment on the following proposed setup for apps.

Owner Profile GOS Apps:

Accrescent, Google Play Services, Google Play Store (PS2), Obtainium

Owner Profile Accrescent Apps:

App Verifier, Aves Gallery, Auxio, Easy Notes, Just Video Player

Owner Profile Obtainium Apps:

Gadget Bridge, BlackyHawkey Clock, PipePipe, Breezy Weather, CoMaps, Gcam Services Provider

Owner Profile Play Store Apps:

Proton Unlimited Suite, Gcam (just like it), Lawnchair, Google Messages (need RCS), Catima, FUTO Keyboard, Calculator You, Libre Office Viewer, Fossify File Manager, CAT1 apps

Owner Profile Private Space:

Google Play Services, Google Play Store (PS1), Proton VPN (Play Store), CAT2 apps

As I will be continuing with my previous CAT2 apps and they have all been previously tagged to my CAT2 account and phone number for 2fa, I don't see much point in starting over with a new account for these.

I figure there may be some merit in using the PS2 account for my daily driver CAT1 apps though as these all tend to be way more privacy respecting then the CAT2 apps. I could be wrong, please correct me if I am.

I am still figuring out wall paper and screen/widget/icon customisation to try and improve the look/feel of GOS. Would appreciate any recommendations regarding this.
