I apologize if this question has been answered already elsewhere (feel free to point me in the right direction with a link)... I am a new user and am curious what the benefits and risks are of using the aurora store vs downloading APKs directly from the service's website. For example, signal is available through the play store (and therefore through the aurora store), but it is also available as an APK download from Signal's website. However, the APK download section has "danger zone" plastered all over it, and Signal recommends using the play store since it is the "safer" option. Why is that option "safer"? Similar download options (aurora or direct APK) are available for the proton suite and many other services as well, but none of these services give any reasoning to use one method over the other. Thanks in advance for helping a novice out!
