Hi all! What a shitty day for me. I potentially screwed up all my privacy efforts to remain as anonymous as possible.
My Pixel with GOS was not tied to my identity during purchase and it's been running on a VPS with permanent killswitch (also not tied to my real identity).
However, today, I stupidly connected my Pixel to my OpenVPN service, hosted at my NAS at home that is tied to my real identity. This connection was for less than 10 minutes and basically connected my device to my NAS domain, which is consequently linked to my identity.
While I am of course not doing anything that would land in me legal trouble as I am an ordinary law-abiding person just trying to improve my digital privacy (ie., my threat model is not high), I supposed I ruined most of my progress with stupid move to make a raw connection from my anonymous device to home.
So I guess my carrier (not tied to my real identity), now has sufficient data to enable an adversary know that my Pixel's IMEI belongs to me and as I connected to my NAS via OpenVPN.
Damnit.
circlingdante I don't want to spread misinformation, but the last post quoting the GOS page may mean that your approach works as intended since the Owner profile is privileged as in, all other profiles depend upon the Owner being unlocked?
circlingdante Seems like a good idea. I wonder it it would work well? Curious to see a response to your question.

jimsam Nothing to complain here. Whatever hassle I may find in the future will be worth knowing that it will be offset by the unbeatable security and privacy gains offered to me by GOS, one of the most important projects out there safeguarding the basic human right of privacy.
I have solved the issue. Here's what I did:
Step 1: re-enabled Sensor permission for the Clock app.
This in itself did not fix it after trying. Then the following worked:
Step 2: Clearing the Storage and Cache of the Clock app.
treequell DND is off at all times
Yeah, I am using the stock/default GOS alarm. The alarm sound slider is on max and it is still doesn't work after reboot. Not sure what else to do.
Hi all, I have come across a weird glitch in my GOS. If I set up an alarm and the device has rebooted whilst I am sleeping (i.e., auto reboot on), then the alarm will fire but no sound will come through, therefore, I will not awake. If I tick the 'vibrate' option, the device will still not sound when the alarm goes off but at least I will wake up with the vibration. This is less than optimal. I checked this on another device, with exactly the same setting and build number as my device and the alarm behaves properly and will sound after an auto-reboot. How can I fix this and why is this happening? Thanks!
It's a bit weird that the OS seems to be calling Google. I will re-flash a device and see this with 0 apps installed.

Hi all, I am running NextDNS and something in my device keeps calling the mother ship and the following query to this server: 'update.googleapis.com' always gets blocked. Because of the multiple profiles I have, I am not sure which app is calling home. I have Aurora Store but network is always disabled unless I need to check something. Would this query be coming from the OS itself or an app?

Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me understand the behavior of the 'Reset app preferences' option in the settings menu.
I have been messing around with the permission of system apps and I basically revoked lots of permissions from system apps - although so far things are running OK, I wanted to ask if by resetting app preferences the OS will reinstate expected app permission as they were initially after the installation of the OS? If not, how can I revert the needed / native permissions provided by the OS to the system apps?
Thanks
matchboxbananasynergy thank you

Hi all, pretty new to the whole GrapheneOS world and am enjoying it so far on my P6a,
I have a question I'd like to ask please. I created a new profile and installed nothing else but Google Maps and another navigation app as I was trying out the sandboxing with Google Play Services.
After a little while and without making any trips with Google Maps I went back to the Owner profile and deleted the whole Navigation profile with the google crap in it before deleting the apps.
Am I still OK to keep using my main profile or for peace of mind should I do a fresh install of the OS to start afresh without Google crap?
Sorry it this is a silly question.
Thanks
Edit: I never signed in to maps.
matchboxbananasynergy thank you! Will do some further reading and educate myself further using the links you sent. I think I need to learn more about the sandboxing stuff.
Also, I love Signal, is the best way to get it from Signal’s website / APK or from Fdroid? I also got to know Molly but I wonder if it would be better and more secure to use signal? I know Molly as extra security feature that I like though. Didn’t find it in Fdroid though.
Hi all,
Excited that I just got Graphene OS for the first time today. I want to switch from iOS to Graphene, so I got a Pixel 6a to begin my journey.
I am struggling with a few things thought and would appreciate advice from seasoned users.
The main problem I have at the minute is that I use Yubikey and WebAuthn for most of my accounts. However, as I found out today, this requires Google Play services. I found a work wound by creating a sandboxed profile with Google Play services, which is not really what I wanted to do.. but with this in mind, how can I use WebAuthn reliable in my GrapheneOS without adding google stuff to my phone?
Also, newbie questions.. what are the implications for downloading apps from Aurora using Anonymous setting? Does it mean I will be full of Google trackers?
I like the native browser, which is a hardened chromium. However, would I be safe to use a hardened version of Brave? Or should I stay away from it?
Thanks everyone, I really need to sort out this WebAuthn issue or else GrapheneOS may not be for me as this type of 2FA is important to me.
Thanks everyone! 6a it is :)
@Hi all,
GrapheneOs newb here.
I want to move from iOS to GrapheneOS, however, I am unsure about whether I should get a Pixel 5 or 6a. Would there be any difference from a security perspective? I like the 5 better as it is not too big. I don’t really care about the camera, my main priority is securing my device.
Advices are welcome!
