  • Context: I bought a new Pixel 8 Pro (cash - not a provider phone) a couple of weeks ago and have set up several profiles. I find that sometimes, for some users I can change a wallpaper, and sometimes not. The problem is the same whether or not it is the home screen wallpaper I'm trying to set or the lock screen wallpaper. I'm just using the native wallpaper configuration (hold down on home screen, pick wallpaper and style -> change wallpaper -> pick image -> set to home screen, lock screen, or both -- I tried all three). My phone is up-to-date.

For example, a few minutes ago as Owner I set the desktop and lock screen to the same picture and it worked. Now I've changed the wallpaper on the home screen, lock the screen, and then unlock and it didn't change -- still stuck on the old picture. Same for the lock screen.

Also, as a different user profile I set the home screen wallpaper a couple of days ago and that seemed to work. But now I can't change it.

I just now rebooted and the wallpapers have taken effect! :)

Is this some kind of buggy behavior or am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks

    • ReadOnlyUser Thanks. The certificate issue I ran into was in the owner profile, and the app was only installed / updated in the owner profile. It looks like I got the error because I installed the app via Aurora Store (which has one signing key) and then tried to update it with Neo Store from the F-Droid repository (which has a different signing key).

    • I like the AnySoftKeyboard very much: https://anysoftkeyboard.github.io/

I've been using it for 3-4 years and love all the tweaks and customization options. Disclaimer: I haven't tested a lot of keyboards. I picked this for the good features and the privacy aspect.

    • I haven't installed it on my new Pixel 8 pro yet, but one good one that I use for local files is Musicolet. It doesn't do any network connections or anything. To put new music on my phone for Musicolet to play, I just use Syncthing.

      • Good guess, but it has been many days and I'm in the same situation.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with app signing or something. I just installed Neo Store in the owner profile to try it out and it shows the new version of K9 mail but when I try to update it says that I can't because it is signed by a different cert than the current one and that I must uninstall the current one before installing the new one. Neo Store says this for other apps too. I don't want to uninstall the current K9 because I've already installed it in more than one profile.

Maybe all this is happening because I installed K9 using Aurora Store (IIRC) and am now trying to update it with Neo Store (which is pulling from F-Droid repo).

        • Wow, that is almost exactly the same approach I take! However, I've run into a weirdness that I don't quite understand. I figured tacking on to your topic would be the best place to discuss :)

I have the same approach to the owner profile. I have Aurora and K9Mail in the owner. In profile P2 I've installed the apps from the owner profile. After a few days, P2's Aurora is alerting me that their is a new version of K9 mail available but my owner profile's Aurora store shows no updates available!

Any ideas on why that may be happening?

          • I am having the same issue still -- I get no audio from mic or device audio when trying to record in any profile other than Owner.

I see in posts above that this seems to be an issue in stock Android. Does anyone have a link to that issue or in general to where the issue tracker is for stock android that GrapheneOS is based on?

            Thanks.

          • I just downloaded the latest update to the tmobile app (pixel 8 pro) and it also just spins and says activating.

          • Thanks @Murcielago. Hopefully the native camera and/ore Open Camera will support it at some point.

As a side note, when I took a 50MP picture with Pixel Camera and the same pic at 12MP, I couldn't zoom the 50MP much more than the 12MP. Oh well. I'm perfectly happy with 12MP because I don't think I've really ever had a case (other than some cropping) to need more than 2-4 MP :)

          • Thank you both for the responses. I've read the docs but am still unclear if the settings affect 5G radio band emissions. As a contrived example for a wifi scenario, turning off wifi could just restrict software from connecting while leaving the radio and scanning underneath still going, or turning off wifi could also turn off the radio.

I'm attempting to learn the affect of the aforementioned settings on the actual 5G band emissions. I do not know if disabling the legacy code actually deactivates that part of the radio system as well.

Hopefully this clarifies what I'm asking. Again thanks for the responses.

            • de0u replied to this.
            • Not that I would want to take every picture with 50 MP resolution, but the Pro I just bought has it.

Is there a way to activate that resolution with the stock camera app? Sometimes I would like to switch to it for the most detailed resolution for later cropping and such.

I created a test user profile and loaded Open Camera in it but it would only let me select up to 12 MP. I downloaded the "Pixel Camera" oem google app from Aurora and it lets me select 50MP in settings, but I prefer to stay with stock apps if I can.

              Regards

            • Hi all,

Just installed GOS yesterday and working through settings, learning, and such. I'm loving it so far. I know that Airplane mode will turn off all radios. Anyway, I have some concerns about the 5G radio emissions so I'm wondering about ways to enable and disable it, therefore I have the following questions:

              1. "LTE Only" setting - does this actually disable the 5G radio/frequency emissions? i.e. so that emissions will only be that of my older 4G phone.
              2. "LTE" - I understand this is semantically that I prefer LTE but it can switch to others, including 5G. Correct?
2.1 - If #2 is correct, are the 5G radio portion emissions always on, just not being used until there is no LTE? Or does the 5G stay turned off unless no LTE is available?

Any clarification on the above appreciated.

              Regards

            • I just bought Pixel 8 Pro yesterday and have the same experience. Soon after I moved my SIM from my old phone to my new phone, I got an SMS message from Tmobile saying effectively there's a new version of their visual voice mail and that I needed to download it from: t-mo.co/VMMtmobile. I HAVE NOT DOWNLOADED THIS YET OR TESTED AND CAN'T ATTEST TO THE AUTHENTICITY OF THAT LINK but am posting here in case you want to investigate in your testing efforts. I will be doing this soon. I haven't learned enough about profiles yet to determine if I should install this in the owner profile or if I can instead install it in my daily use profile.
