Of course, it will get better in the future and I'm in the matrix groups myself but I realized it's not that easy for new users. Especially for those that are less technical it might not be as easy to get into the community which surprised me because the GOS team did so much to create bridges between platforms but it lacks an easy access point

me-discuss you need to do this for every app if you're on a metered connection. Usually there should be a setting in each app about when it can download files or updates. Set each to unmetered. That way metered connections are ignored.
Is developer mode disabled? If it is enabled try to disable it and reboot. If it is not enabled you could open the app and wait until it gets killed. Then long press the app icon until you get into the settings menu and view the log. Copy and paste. If you see anything personally identifiable, which I doubt, you can remove it before you paste is the log.
This should show the moment it gets killed and the reason whyThis might have been suggested before or it might be a very stupid idea but bear with me here. GOS has to rely on alpha and beta testers to function properly. This is great because a Dev team can't find every single bug. So we have multiple options to join the graphene community. The Dev team even worked hard to create bridges from often used apps to connect to the main chat lobbies.
GOS is also tailored to everyone. Not just users that know what they're doing. However, there is no way to get into the community chat from default GOS.
Yes, you can install google play and download element, telegram or discord but the first thing people want when they enter the world of google free GOS is to look at the apps, try new things and get support because some people will get lost when they start out and that's ok. But why is there no direct gateway into the community chat available in either GOS store or Accrescent?
Yes, they can join the forum and yes they can get a way to access it from the play store and it might just be me thinking this but why is there no easy access?
I know you can't get Telegram or Discord into the GOS store at this point in time but maybe another bridge with an app that is willing?
This is only a suggestion but I think a lot of new users find themselves lost at first but could quickly turn into understanding users and even alpha/beta testers if they have the opportunity to directly reach out to the community after installing GOS.This was just a thought I had after searching for Element to add to my obtainium list.
On my P8Pro my screen hasn't flickered yet but I have to slide my screen several times to be able to unlock the device. I think this is related to a bug someone mentioned on the OS issues tracker where the bottom of the screen doesn't immediately function when the unlock menu is presented.
It isn't directly related to your issue but it might be caused by the same bug.splattergames I could not agree more. When you step into the world of (I'm going to use the word Semi here because we are talking about mostly money hungry data harvesting that will to everything to defeat your perfect privacy setup) Semi-Privacy in the current state of the internet you are dazzled with choices. GOS is not created and maintained to solely support the more advanced user but also to drastically increase the security and privacy of the average Joe.
But yes, unfortunately there are many kinds of fingerprinting methods. There are billions of dollars working towards (or already working with?) fingerprinting methods we haven't even heard of yet (speculation but plausible). All that we can currently do is rely on GOS, rely on opensource projects to increase our privacy. If you want some more privacy and security while browsing using GOS try to use browsers like Vanadium for security or Brave for security and some form of privacy by badness enumeration. While it breaks my heart not to mention Firefox anymore it's not the best choice unless you use Tor or maybe Mull (I don't know enough about the hardening to recommend it).VPN recommendations will stay subjective like I said before but they can slightly or drastically (depending on your ISP) enhance your privacy and security. However, it doesn't onion, garlic, or in any other way try to create anonymity online. It might help but it does not actively try to do this by bouncing you around through layers of encryption.
A VPN is a very useful tool to circumvent censorship and can help boost privacy and security. Regardless of suggested VPN providers (which is subjective based on current state and personal experience) if you find a service that does not log, has nothing to show in court, blocks trackers, ads, malware etc on a DNS level, and has your trust, it can increase your privacy and overall browsing experience. More so if combined with the right browsers and privacy friendly apps.
mmobder to a trusted place, be it cloud or another device(s) via Syncthin
Is the current KeePassDX github still https://github.com/Kunzisoft/KeePassDX ?
Checking to make sure I add the most current project to my obtainiumsplattergames that is the downside, but since I run my little server for quite a lot of services (Immich, Nextcloud, Vaultwarden, Syncthing, AdGuard Home and quite a few others), it's really worth it in the end. Having all ports blocked is a nice thing of course, but with some proper security
What are you using to run your server? I used to have a RAID NAS but the expenses outweighed the use. If I can run something similar on a RPI it will be much more interesting since I could run a unifiedpush, too.
I've been out of the loop with LAN devices. I also drastically need to expand my router setup (r7800 with ddwrt) to include some form of WIFI 6E mesh or AP but I have been so out of the loop with this (my own fault) that I don't even know where to start. (Off-topic, my apologies mods)splattergames of course I agree with you . That's why I said "
FOSSOS if you change your view on VPN services as a much more private alternative to your ISP (when using a privacy friendly one) it will be much more objective
There is a 100% chance your ISP is logging you and is a honeypot when requested to be so by LE. There is a somewhat smaller chance your VPN is a honeypot. Using it with that knowledge, to circumvent censorship, download copies of Linux distributions and similar things it offers some protection from tracking. Some peace of mind and some privacy if they are audited and are court proven to not log. But like you said this can change at any moment after an audit. It all comes back to threat model. For the average Joe it will increase privacy by a littlend increase security for the most part. As a last thing to mention I like PIA because they has the privacy model audited at a random server and it was shown that even with their static IP's the company itself did not log traffic and was not able to determine the current or past user in any way.
This will always depend on the amount of pressure they receive. The few $ a month you spend is not worth losing their company. This is why I always see a VPN as a slightly more private and secure option to your default ISP.
splattergames vaultwarden would be the best solution but then I'll have to invest in running an instance again and I have all LAN blocked by default since I don't use it so it's a hassle to set it up.
I will check KeePassDX's current state. Thanks!
rellhom
No particular reason. Mullvad is a good company. PIA is cheaper and has a slightly larger infrastructure iirc. I haven't done any speed tests on mullvad in a while but I think Mullvad is sightly faster on certain servers. Both are decent companies imo because neither have proven to be ineffective at what they do (not what they claim, mullvad wins there because there is less marketing since it's not a subsidiary of a larger company the last time I checked).
However, after years of using PIA combined with other services I can't complain about the service in general.splattergames thanks for the suggestion. I will have a look at the current state of KeePassDX (I can read code, for the most part). I always stuck with KeePass2Android out of familiarity (and some laziness on my part). Hopefully it's an easy import and export because that's the only thing holding me back. The kdbx files of K2A are still encrypted but the project seems dead so I have to move on.
This is why I still use Brave. It isn't perfect at all but the blocking of unproxied UDP with the fingerprint randomization does help. It is badness enumeration but it is more protection than no protection.
More on topic the VPN recommendations are biased based on experience. Some companies are located in better regions and have stricter policies and some companies have a better reputation based on their ownership, people that work there and previous experiences with legal action.
A regularly Audited VPN that doesn't keep logs is something you want to look for but don't expect it to ever be bulletproof.
Almost ervers are always hosted in a data center (even if the company owns them) and those do keep connection logs as the bare minimum required by law. Even if you pay cash. You can connect, or multihop, to a server in the most privacy friendly location, this does help a little but not for everything.
if you change your view on VPN services as a much more private alternative to your ISP (when using a privacy friendly one) it will be much more objective.
I personally use PIA (not a popular choice because of it's KAPE ownership) but they are relatively cheap, have a decent infrastructure, decents apps, have been audited and have been to court several times. This is no guaranteed privacy for the future but there is no guarantee for any company mentioned above or below this post.
My opinion is subjective thus my own. Many might disagree (which is fine).
I used KeePass2Android for a long time on devices without GOS but I don't think the project is actively worked on anymore.
I used KeePass2Android on other devices because of the built-in keyboard that does not spy on your password and the auto fill feature this keyboard has but that's no longer an issue with GOS. The app has some issues with GOS's enhanced security features so I do not mind ditching it.What FOSS projects (and links to these projects) are currently suggested as offline database password manager for privacy and strong security and can I export my current KeePass2Android database and import them so I don't have to rebuild my kdbx database.
I don't need any online features. I want to stay in full control of my passwords. The database is used offline but offline integrated backup sync to USB features would be nice.

fid02 That is curious indeed. I downloaded it from Github to be able to install AppVerifier and install Obtainium a few days before GOS added it to the App Store and checked the hashes on the sources they provide. I don't know how to manually verify a signing hash without downloading everything to a computer first, and then I still don't really know how, so I decided to uninstall it and AppVerifier and install it from the GOS App Store instead to be sure it was an safe installation. I didn't touch the settings but when it showed an update in the App Store I had a look at the settings in Accrescent and automatic updates was disabled.
matchboxbananasynergy Accrescent specifically is excluded from being kept up to date via GrapheneOS' app store. You're meant to let Accrescent take over updating itself.
It was unclear that this was required and that it is excluded by design. Accrescent has auto-update disabled by default. I will turn on auto-update in Accrescent so it can take over the update process.
matchboxbananasynergy As far as Play Store and services goes, the version you see in the app store will be lower than what you have yourself if you're letting play services update itself. This is fine.
This was also unclear but if it is nothing to worry about this topic can be marked as solved because all questions are answered.
Thank you.All of the native GOS apps, such as Camera and Vanadium, auto-update and give notifications about updates. However, the Accrescent Mirror app I installed from the App Store does not automatically update while a stable version was released several days ago. When I open the App Store it does show an Update button under the app but it does not update automatically.
Is this by design?
I did not get a notification about the update either while all of the native GOS app updates do give notifications and update automatically.
Auto-Updates are turned on in the Apps Store but turned off in Accrescent so I did not know there was an update until I opened the App Store.
The way Mirror releases work is not very clear to me. After I found out Accrescent does not automatically update I had a look at Google Play Services.
The Available version on the service in the GOS App Store is 24.22.13 but seems to be far behind the shown installed version 24.28.35. The GOS App store available version of the Google Play Store is also behind the already installed version.
I do not manually update anything in the GOS App Store. I install and forget. Can someone explain to me if this is by design and why the GOS Available version is lower as the installed version?

GrapheneOS I only use Play Services for notifications Telegram which I installed through Obtainium. I don't use the Play Store itself. The auto-update issue I'm encountering is with the GOS Apps Store. I updated to the most recent version of the GOS Apps Store and I hope it will now auto-update apps even with Telegram set to unrestricted battery mode.
I'm sorry if I caused any confusion and thank you for adding Accrescent to the Apps store.

matchboxbananasynergy I changed back the battery setting for Telegram and my VPN app tot Optimized. This didn't change anything and it the updates are ready to install in a notification. I changed it back to optimized about 18 hours ago but none of the updates have started yet.
I want those two apps on unrestricted if it is possible. I do not always get notifications if they are on optimized. I do not receive all my messages through Sandboxed Google Play unless i leave the app open but I don't know if it will ever go into idle state if I do set them to unrestricted since the services always run.

matchboxbananasynergy no I did not change anything. It should be enabled.
Check for updates On
Update check interval 6 hours
Auto-update apps On
Allowed network type for auto-updates Any
Always Allow auto-updates of config files and resources On- Edited
My GrapheneOS apps used to update automatically but now I only get notifications that updates are available but they do not install unless I tap on them. I didn't change any settings except allowing telegram and my VPN app unrestricted battery access since it did not always receive push notifications through sandboxed play store. I tried changing both battery settings back to optimized but that did not resolve it and I would like to set them back to unrestricted so I get all notifications.
In GOS Apps all settings are turned on.
Can someone help me fix this issue?
