Google photo network problem

Hello, I'm sharing a little oddity with you: I haven't had a sim card for 1 week now, nor internet, as I don't have a box. Since yesterday, Google photo only allows me to view photos, the interface isn't the same and I can't retouch photos. However, network authorization has always been deactivated. My conclusion is that Google photo can access the Internet despite the deactivated network authorization.

jufstp Google Photos doesn't works for edit/share/delete if you haven't installed GSF.
If Google Services are installed you may use full GPhotos without any user and without Network connection

I can confirm I experienced this issue recently: Google Photos was able to open images but couldn't edit them (was freezing on loading screen after tapping to Edit button).

This happened after the latest Photos app update and the root cause is that Photos needs to download the latest editing tools but can't due to lack of Network permissions.

I did the following to resolve the issue:

Cleared app's cache
Connected to wifi (this is very important as Photos will not download its libraries on mobile connection, this is how Google coded it).
Enabled notifications for Photos (specifically - the one named Other, as it's the one responsible for showing tool download notification).
Allowed Network access for Photos app and the Google Play Services (although I think it might still work without granting Network access to Play Services).
Opened the app and kept it open. After some time it displayed a notification saying Photos is downloading the latest editing tools. It tooks some time to download and install (around 20 mins) and editing started to work again.
I then disabled Network access to Photos and Play Services.

That is not an indication that the Google Photos app is connecting to the internet. No network connection is required to view photos saved on your device in that app. It works fine offline.

treequell I never said I couldn't view photos, I said I couldn't edit photos. When I click on edit there's a loading page that spins around in a vacuum.

treequell I therefore conclude that the grapheneos internet authorization leaks the data. If you don't believe me you are free to reproduce.

jufstp you have an interesting way of thinking. If you don't trust Android permission system, how come you are still using it? When I say something is black, it can not be white. When you turn the BT off, it is off, not on. And when you revoke network, you can't get past the fence.

[deleted] Disabling network authorization with a sim card doesn't change the way the application works. Remove the sim card and the application doesn't work the same way. You're the researchers, not me. I'm just telling you what I think the problem is. And telling me to stop using Android isn't a solution.

jufstp I have, app works fine editing with no network. But I only just installed it. Unless it is intended functionality of the app to reconnect to internet after a period of time and reducing usability which you can do diddly squat about. So unless you use it the way it is, look for an alternative. Or try reinstalling, it might help. I am in love with this forum, but sometimes I hate it.

[deleted] Wait 2 days without network before drawing a conclusion. I'll leave it at that, I think I understand the mentality. Taking people for idiots like that you have no problem with your operating system. As for me, I'll leave it at that and make a video to show the problem. Hopefully a developer will watch it. jufstp you need to calm down my friend. Remaining in the territory that makes you feel uncomfortable is not good for your well-being. This issue is marked as solved and on that I trust the mod. Honestly, look for an alternative (like Aves) if Google Photos don't work the way you want.

I don't follow how the app removing the ability to edit photos because you haven't been connected to the internet means that it is able to connect to the network? It's not the behavior you observed that puzzles me, but that you've leapt to such a conclusion.

I presume Google Photos must give you a period of time after installing the app to allow you touch up photos locally on the device, before asking you to connect to the internet. The touch up photos is still done locally on the device whether the app has a network connection or not.

[deleted] just a little observation. I do not use Google Play Services, all Google Photos functions worked with/without network. During photo editing session Tracker Control hasn't picked up any outgoing network activity.

[deleted] I have installed yesterday in a profile without Sandboxes Google Play Services installed and the app doesn't action to Edit/Delete or Share but working fine in main profile, with Sandboxed GFS installed. Maybe other difference that I did not take into account

Note 1: Here (https://www.xda-developers.com/huawei-app-alternatives/) also writting that GPhotos doesn't works without GSF, but maybe outdated info
Note 2: GCalendar do not opens without GFS also
