It's not only for screenshots. It works for other apps that don't have their own image editor built in such as Aves Gallery or the GrapheneOS Camera app.

For clarity, the inclusion of the Markup app in the apps repository does not mean the app is recommended by GrapheneOS over other image editing apps. The purpose is to provide a secure way for users to install that particular app if they wish to do so.

Thank you for adding the Markup app, it's very handy

Since the last 2 upgrades I have my screen frozen if I try to kill running in background apps by tap on the square and slide up those apps, the workaround is to turn off/on the screen, any idea or fix?

treequell So what I do is to tap on the square kill some app tap on the circle to go back and boom frozen, it's weird, it's happens all the time for me since last 2 releases, I have also a Pixel7

gonzalo If you switch to gesture navigation, do you experience the same behavior?

I use gesture navigation but just tested 3-button navigation when I tried to reproduce your issue without success.

treequell Does Play Services communicate with it in any way? I imagine it would work without the Network permission but I wouldn't want Google being able to access my images in any way.

yore Does Play Services communicate with it in any way?

They're both proprietary apps, so there's no easy way to figure this out, and even if we did then functionality could change after an update at any time. I personally don't suspect Markup does anything that shady because it's a very small and simple app by all accounts. Also, on Pixel phones, Google Photos and Google Play Services usually have access to everything anyway. Adding that kind of functionality to a small app would be redundant, so I really doubt the app is anything more than what it appears to be. It's also worth noting that the app doesn't request any permissions, including the Network permission.

The functionality of Markup is all speculation on my part, of course. If you don't want to make decisions based on speculation then, honestly, you might consider not using the app.

The markup app would only be able to access files it's sent (not sure how long the app can access the file afterwards) and files it creates. It wouldn't have access to other files.
