[Bug] GPay no longer workd

I used to use GPay on GOS until like the last update. If sandboxed Google is installed, it was working perfectly smoothly for my needs. except certain aspects like NFC.

But very recently the transactions was failing. During troubleshooting I tried reinstalling GPay, from then it was saying security checks failed. It says that if GServices don't have enough permissions, so tried enabling all that.. But still nothing.

Bank apps still works for now, so I believe GPay should also work. please fix asap.

someone1223 If you don't mind, please could you clarify which form of payments you are able to make with Google Pay on GrapheneOS? It might be useful for other users as a reference.

I understand the frustration your experiencing seeing that GPay is how many of us do microtransactions. But there are a few things:

GPay working is not something GrapheneOS promises for users. It may work under some circumstances for some countries. It can stop working when you have a version of the App installed which requires a Google certified device.
GrapheneOS holds up the Android Security model and app developers can place confidence in grapheneOS by implementing the Standard Android Attestation API as specified in detail here

In short what I mean to say is GrapheneOS doesn't promise apps working as intended as a feature.
Rest assured the devs do not break anything for apps to malfunction. It is the app devs responsibility to make the app compatible with Vanilla Android environment which is provided by GrapheneOS. Most apps may work with Google compatibility layer. But if an app uses Play Integrity, that cannot be mediated by GrapheneOS, unless Google licenses use of play services in GrapheneOS.

But that would require great security compromises on development side so we are in a position where the compat layer works great for most banking apps except few like GPay.

GPay is suddenly working now. I did not change anything, probably got fixed in an update from GOS or GPay. So I'm pretty sure it wasn't safetynet.

someone1223 It is, GPay does not work in most situations under GOS. It may stop, it may not, its undefined and we can't insure anything.

For me, for example, it does not work what so ever.

Regardless, its not something the GOS team can fix if it breaks again, I would heavily suggest moving to a different method of paying

I also have cash and my Bank app just in case, but GPay us orders of magnitude easier (and don't need to worry about having enough cash)

Unless something has changed, it's is only NFC contactless card payments that don't work with Google Pay.

As far as I know, all other functionality in Google Pay is reported working in GrapheneOS. So GrapheneOS users in India should continue to be able to use Google Pay for UPI payments.

If something changes there, please do let us know @someone1223.

I'm from India, so UPI payments work fine. Havn't tried anything else, as I only need this.
