  • Voice Audiobook player is crashing system UI constantly; alternative app??

My favorite open source audiobook app has been crashing system ui constantly since upgrading GrapheneOS to android 13. Does anyone know how to get it to stop crashing system ui so much?

Are there any good open source alternatives out there for audiobooks?

I use AudioAnchor for my audiobooks and I love it. Has all the features a audiobook player should have, bookmarks, dark mode, autoplay, skip +/-30 seconds, etc.. Definitely worth checking out.

I would second Audio Anchor as an alternative.

I'm surprised Voice isn't working for you. I've been using it without issues. I have a Pixel 5, latest GrapheneOS update and the latest version of Voice (6.1.1 from F-Droid or Github installed).

I'm assuming you have the latest version installed? If so, did you try uninstalling and downgrading to an older version to see if that helps?

Conjure6589 Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately the app tends to pause significantly between tracks when listening. Not ideal but at least it works.

Max-Zorin It worked fine before Graphene went to Android 13. Both the old version and new won't work without crashing system ui. Maybe it's a pixel 6 specific bug. Just did a fresh reinstall that had the same problems. It did not prompt me to use storage scopes if that matters.

[deleted] Have you turned on Exploit Protection Compatibility Mode for the app or Configure Hardening for the app to see if that helps?

Settings > Apps > See all ## apps > select Voice and scroll down to near the bottom for the settings toggles

Max-Zorin I was going to but I'd like to keep those protections on. Hopefully it will work itself out eventually.
