Klaus Ok, does that mean that there is any data transfer to Google when using this app?
I wouldn't imagine it would since its included in a project like GrapheneOS.
If not, why should it redirect to Google privacy policy?
Probably licensing / legal stuff or something, since it is still Google/AOSP's app and so it would be bound by their policies. Or maybe GrapheneOS just doesn't think its important to bother touching/changing.
And if yes, is that the right default app for a privacy oriented OS like Graphene?
As I said above, if GrapheneOS includes it, I'd imagine its fine. If you really don't like / trust the default apps, you are more than able to install and use your own apps.
Perhaps my question sounds silly, but this is my first contact with Android (Graphene) at all. I avoided to use it so far due to privacy reasons .
Its fair to want to take privacy seriously, but I'm not sure these very basic concerns are warranted on a project like Graphene which is held in pretty high regard by a lot of people, both security experts and users of all kinds.
And as Phead says, things like Dialer and SMS aren't exactly secure/private anyway, so I don't think the default app matters that much. Better to use actually private apps that utilise things like encryption.
