  • Pixel 5 no audio when phone call is answered using dialer

Hello

I have a Pixel 5. When I answer calls, I usually cannot get audio. Either I don't hear the other person or they don't hear me. Signal voice calls work just fine. Any idea how to diagnose this? Let me know if there is any relevant info I could provide that would be helpful.

Thanks

@nekopy Hello!

Please make sure that Microphone access is turned on.
Swipe down twice and look for a "Mic access" quick tile.

If Mic access is turned off, no apps are allowed to access your microphones, not even the system dialer.

When the Mic access is turned off and you get a call, you need to unlock the phone to turn Mic access on.

Yes, you can accept or reject incoming calls without unlocking your phone, but in order to turn Mic access on you need to unlock it.

My personal recommendation is to keep Mic access on during "work hours" (when you get/expect a lot of incoming calls). Later on, you can see which apps accessed your microphones by checking the Privacy Dashboard.

Hope this helps.

Hey @Hulk thanks for the reply.

Double checked this mic access issue, and it doesn't seem to be the problem since the Mic Access is enabled and I don't turn it off. Also this happens with outgoing calls, so the phone is already unlocked. I use WiFi calling, but I try with WiFi off when I make calls and it still doesn't work. And again, the issue happens like 80% of the time, not always. :T

    nekopy have you revoked any permissions of the Phone/Dialler app? Are you using LTE Only and VoLTE or are you set to LTE recommended with VoLTE enabled/disabled?

    Hi. Just checked. All permissions are enabled. I am set to 5G preferred, still happens with outgoing and incoming calls sometimes.

    Sorry would edit, but not sure I can. For what it's worth, the outgoing calls do not ring either. Just nothing. The call connects and the green mic icon appears in the top right, all the buttons pop up along with "HD" next to the call timer, but no audio nothing.
