[deleted] I guess it all depends on what you're trying to achieve. Personally, I don't see how it would help for a couple reasons:
- Using a different phone to access mobile data still means that you're using a device that can be traced by the carrier. Maybe more so if the other phone is not running GrapheneOS.
- GrapheneOS is a hardened, secure, and private OS. It's unlikely that any attacker would be able to exploit your GrapheneOS phone, and if they could they would target a world leader or someone very rich or influential. The likelihood of being attacked randomly is virtually zero.
Some other thoughts:
[deleted] i dont wanna broadcast my IMEI
Why? The other phone also has an IMEI.
[deleted] they wont detect my phone changing based on imei change
What do you mean here? Are you suggesting you'd swap out phones regularly?
[deleted] Are there any privacy or security issues with a hotspot (one connected device allowed only) being turned on all the time?
I'd think so. This way your carrier can see the, for lack of a better word, proxy phone you're using, but also anyone in your vicinity can see your hotspot SSID. So you're kind of doubling your exposure, if you get what I mean.
[deleted] Does changing SSID every day mitigate the issues of acces point tracking or is this just unnecessary?
I don't think it would make any difference. I don't know if the proxy phone would use a different MAC address or not when you change the SSID. If it doesn't, your SSID change might fool people who might happen to see hotspot names, but if the MAC doesn't change (which I think is likely), then tracking would still be possible.
