Hi every one, the espeak version available from both the play store and Aurora has a company called Redzoc listed as the developer. A quick search reveals they are an Indian software developments company. Additionally, the Aurora privacy report lists three trackers in the app including Facebook ads and Google AdMob.

Is this the same as the original espeak app?

Its best to steer clear of that Redzoc version, it is a fork with added trackers.

1.52 of espeak-ng is now available with ARMv8a support.
It should work on all devices Android 13 and higher. (SDK 33)
This version has no trackers.

I heard about Piper on a LINUX Unplugged podcast episode. Unfortunately there is currently no Android app for it. But it otherwise looks promising. https://github.com/rhasspy/piper

I started using OpenStreetMap on Android and so far it seems great for its intended purpose. I need to find a suitable text-to-speech app for it so that it can announce direction updates and traffic control camera zones. I've looked at RHVoice, and this is what I may end up using until something better comes along. RHVoice may be free and open source, but F-Droid marks it as having anti-features such as promoting non-free add-ons and promoting or depending entirely on a non-free network service.

Arnauld Just found out about this via F-Droid's weekly newsletter myself.
It integrates w/ Wallabag's Android app so I can save news articles and have them dictated to me

Also stumbled across Whisper for some Speech-to-text from the some creator as a result as well. I am integrating that w/ HeliBoard so that I can dictate to my device/wean myself off of Google's Speech Recognition Services 🙌🏾

What kind of use with the Heliboard?

Arnauld There's a 'microphone' key in the HeliBoard keyboard. Clicking it launches Whisper for dictation. I initially tried using SayBoard but it was ₇₀% as accurate as Google's 'Speech Recognition and Synthesis' app. With Whisper, it's as accurate 90-95% of the time IME.

If you hold the "globe" button (on the bottom right) then you can use it with Florisboard as well.

The tts engine I referred to earlier stopped working. But I found a long list of tts engines on github. I picked a Dutch (Flemish) female speaker, and she sounds very natural.
