Tracking via text ?

I need some guidance, my cousin is going through a bad divorce. soon to be ex we believe is tracking my cousin but no hard evidence, he told my cousin I can track you via " active text " ,not sure what that means .
My cousin is using a p6 with stock android . I had my cousin check google messages to see if a device was linked to the app but no devise was. My cousin has moved to signal to communicate with family . is there a known way to tack someone via texts ? My cousin went app by app to make sure there wasn't any unknown apps installed . this may be a case of mental games but any help would be appreciated.
I offered two solutions , reinstall android so we know nothing is compromised or install graphene . we don't know if anything was compromised before my cousin knew the relationship was over .

I'd think of reflashing stock android first unless the ex is working for the NSA or smth, because google play can detect bluetooth tracking devices by default - not sure if its possible to enable it fully with GOS sandbox. Then after some time maybe switch to GOS.

At the very least your cousin absolutely should wipe their phone and do a fresh install of the OS. If cousin chooses to stay with Stock Android then they should do a fresh install and NOT restore from a backup. Additionally, cousin should consider using a fresh Google account after installing Stock Android.

Speak with cousin about their "digital habits." If they regularly post anything to any social medias, they should cease doing so.

Teach cousin about phishing and make certain that they are not clicking on random links which might be emailed or texted to them.

Cousin should be taught how to use a password manager. Encourage them to change passwords on any crucial accounts, ones such as social medias/email/banking.

Your cousin will benefit more from behavioral corrections such as these than they will from installing GOS. If cousin installs GOS but fails to take corrective action in these areas they quite probably will end up back at square one.

This might be an opportunity for your cousin's attorney to discuss relevant local laws with the counterparty's attorney (I realize this is a technical forum, but arguably law is a form of technology too).

spiral I initially did suggested a while before but was reluctant to start over but might be more open to it now . I believe my cousin is mindful of phishing because of their job, but it wouldn't hurt to talk about it. I'm not sure if my cousin has a personal social media account.

Skyway Evidence of what? If you don't know what to look for, chances are you won't find it.

Skyway you would need a trusted (by the court) party to do the filesystem dumping and analysis. If you want to preserve such evidence, turn the phone off, put it in a faraday cage/bag, ans buy a new one to use.

de0u yes I think more information needs to be brought to the attention of council .
I went through a similar mental mind games earlier this year its hard seeing someone else go through it too.

But on the original topic , talked to my cousin briefly last night before we lost service . I believe the conversion was based on iPhone find my phone feature as rest of family is in iPhone ecosystem . so some misunderstanding and possibly worded wrong on purpose.
