I should also add - I'm assuming I can't really use ABP backup much ??? ANy other tools that work for restoring data/apps?

Sure, lots of people do it that way. There's no difference between what apps can do in Owner or secondary profile. I moved from using multiple profiles to just Owner (with Play) myself for quality of life reasons. I might revert back to two profiles once there's a solid way to update a good chunk of at least open source apps outside Play.

No good backup solutions at this time. Use in-app backup method instead.

lcalamar App cloning and IPC scopes (when they are implemented) should remove most usecases for multiple profiles and also work profile. Remaining usecases would be for those who need absolute privacy in certain situations, including certain invasive and privacy&info stealing apps.

rarelyrare I tried Obtainium before it got background updates (so I hear), but it felt hacky (it is by design) and not really whole lot better than updating couple APKs manually from time to time. I'll keep an eye on it but all I really want is for Accrescent to become a thing.

for non obtanium apps, i had not considered restoring them using google play... even rhough i typically use aurora, i guess there is no reason to use Google play one time for restoring my apps, then shutting it off?

And it auto updates some apps I'm the background but most apps you have to manually click install with the app open. But if you update apps like once a week it would only take around 5 mins or so of time clicking install update on the apps.

lcalamar you mean like redownloading the apps from google play? You could use your built-in android backup feature if so for that.

... this is why I originally setup my work profile - but I am pretty careful about what Apps I'm using - and I check them out with Warden... if there is an app I can use a web ui with - I use that first... so for me - I like not having to maintain that work profile - it 'sounds good on paper' but doesn't seem to add much value to my use case!

Once you plug in a USB it will show up there and you can back things up. Or what I've done is gotten myself a raspberry pi and have installed Nextcloud on it with a USB ssd hard drive attached to the RPI. And I can back up my GOS to that over my network.

But can you restore successfully? You might want to try creating a temporarily profile, restoring into it, and seeing if everything you expect shows up.
