Just wondering if anyone knows why my graphene system updater keeps showing the notification "Failed to check for updates" An error occurred checking for the latest update. The update system will try again soon.

This may have been like this for several weeks.

I have tried uninstalling app updates, rebooting
and force stop on system updater then rebooting.

I am using a pixel 3.

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

It's because your device is no longer supported and those devices names are completely removed from the updater, which results in that error.

You are strongly encouraged to move to a non-EOL supported device as soon as possible, your device is not secure at this point.

The last stable release should still be available for download because even an older GrapheneOS device is more secure than the stock google android that the phone comes with. Though it's not ideal, it may be the only option for some. Is there anywhere the last stable release could be downloaded? Is there a legacy repository (that displays the necessary warnings of using an older less secure device)?

llll The last stable release should still be available for download because even an older GrapheneOS device is more secure than the stock google android that the phone comes with.

I can understand that perspective, and I can also understand why the GrapheneOS developers might not want the project name to be associated with devices that can't be supported, or to have those devices calling up the GrapheneOS update server.

An interested party could clone the final release for a platform, change the branding and the updater web site, and make images available, perhaps under a name like "ExpiredOS".

Please note that I do not speak for the GrapheneOS project.

Use DivestOS. It won't be perfect, because it can't provide security fixes for firmware and all that, but the partial security updates from newer releases will be better than staying on an unupdated GrapheneOS.
