Are the pixel 4a (not the 5g) getting extended support? Or is it recommended to replace it immediately. I would like to wait a bit, till the pixel 8 is available with contract here.
Pixel 4a extended support
I got a system update the other day on my 4a just fine.
Dojo Are the pixel 4a (not the 5g) getting extended support? Or is it recommended to replace it immediately.
The official advice is:
Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL and Pixel 4a are end-of-life and shouldn't be used anymore due to lack of most security patches for firmware and drivers. We provide extended support for harm reduction with the displayed patch level frozen at the last obtainable value.
There may well be some updates, but you are already (right now) less protected than you were before.
Dojo The more a device is end-of-life, the more increasingly vulnerable the device is. The project's advice is for people to move away from EOL devices as quickly as possible to a supported one. We provide extended support releases for some time as a harm reduction measure, but we make it clear that we're not trying to mislead our users and claim that this makes the device secure. It can never receive full security patches by GrapheneOS or anybody else beyond its EOL date, unless the OEM devices to push more updates.
