Thanks for the reply. I finally had some time to look at the phone again. I reflashed the Pixel 6a with the Google Android 13 image for "T-Mobile" which seems to be what my JMP.Chat SIM uses the most. Before, I had flashed it with the default image. I had to flash GrapheneOS on my phone with the command line in Ubuntu since no other method would work. The flash process paused periodically several times with a message that it was waiting for a device. All I could do was unplug my phone and then plug it back in for the process to continue at each pause. After I locked the bootloader and restarted, my JMP.Chat physical SIM started working again. There are no problems. I never determined the original cause of my problem, but am just happy to get GrapheneOS back on my phone.
