Got Magic Earth working for Nav with voice turn-by-turn

I noticed I can use it for Nav with WiFi/LTE/Bluetooth all turn off and in airplane mode, but even though I downloaded maps for areas near me, it still requires location to be turned on. Trying to figure what I am missing with downloaded maps for my area for that.

I do have sandboxed Google services running (no account log-in and one will not be created). for push notifications on Signal and Proton Mail. Framework and Google Play state Google is "mirrored", which must do something good.

MoonshineMidnight You can get the route overview without location permission enabled, but you have to give the app access to your location to do turn-by-turn navigation.

Downloading the map just means that you don't need internet to view the map.
