hello,
considering the tablet is a WiFi-only device why are these (system) apps kept:

  • phone (can I make emergency calls btw?)
  • phone calls
  • messaging
  • blocked numbers storage
  • call log backup/restore
  • carrier default app
  • cell broadcast service
  • android carrier config
  • android ims service entitlement
  • mms service
  • sim app dialog
  • sim toolkit

are they really all needed to use a VoIP account on GOS?

I'd also want to remove the messaging app, I don't understand why it's there in the first place. it has also all permissions out of the box, including network access, which is a bit befuddling.

thanks and br

My personal preference would be for available developer cycles to be devoted to an improved backup system, which would benefit roughly 100% of GrapheneOS users on all device types, as opposed to experimenting to determine which telephony code might be superfluous though probably harmless (since it's not connected to hardware).

Also, a lot of tablets do have SIM slots. For all we know, Google is leaving those packages in the builds because they plan to use the code soon.

FWIW, MySudo routes calls through the AOSP dialer, so I suppose it depends on your VOIP setup.

which google tablets have a sim slot? and graphene ain't google, so again, those apps are found in GOS, idc if they're on stock too, didn't check that.
I'm not experimenting with these apps, they're kinda bloatware on a WiFi only device.

[deleted] sure, that'll explain the existence of the phone and maybe another app or two, but I still don't believe the listed apps are all must-have on a WiFi only pixel tablet running GOS, hence I'd appreciate some info from the devs. interesting enough, the messaging app keeps using the disabled phone app as well as is accessing sms services, according to the privacy dashboard.

prompter Graphene is based on AOSP, which is the base for all android tablets including those that do have sims.
