Pixel 6 Pro OEM unlocking greyed out

Hi there,

I've updated the system and also done a factory reset, the OEM unlocking is still greyed out and says "Connect to the internet or contact your carrier". I connected to wifi as instructed and nothing happened, I restarted as well. Any suggestions? I don't have a carrier sim yet.

You likely have bought an OEM locked phone from Verizon. Sell it and buy another.

As @BalooRJ stated, your device is OEM locked which means it most likely was previously purchased from a carrier such as Verizon. Where did you purchase the device from? Did the listing state that the device was unlocked? If so, that more often than not means it's Carrier unlocked and not OEM unlocked. Devices that are OEM locked are not able to be unlocked and you will have to purchase another device and make sure the OEM can be unlocked. Your best bet is to purchase one directly from the Google Store since they are already unlocked.

I bought from eBay, refurbished, so you are both likely correct. The listing did say it was unlocked but it doesn't appear to be. Thanks for the info.

rodeobri You're welcome. "Unlocked" in this instance is referring to Carrier Unlocked.

rodeobri on ebay look for a Pixel called "Google Edition," it should be bootloader unlocked.

spiral Thanks. I just ordered an Amazon one that stated "Carrier Unlocked", fingers crossed that will do the trick. If not I'll try looking for Google Edition next.

rodeobri as stated above carrier unlocked and bootloaded unlocked are different. You may end up in the same situation , hopefully you can return if that's the case .

rodeobri The Q&As on Amazon aren't in relation to the specific listing you're viewing at the time but to the product as a whole i.e. Pixel devices can support OEM unlocking if the bootloader hasn't been locked.

Go to ebay and search "Google pixel edition" there are many pixels for sale which are called "GOOGLE EDITION'" those are bootloader unlockable. I have bought many from ebay in this way and it has always worked out.

Like I previously said, your best bet is to purchase a Pixel device directly from the Google Store since they are already OEM unlocked.

Phone refurbisher or resellers get phones from many sources , one person may get a phone able to be OEM unlocked the next may not .

I just had a phone that failed to allow OEM unlocking from my favorite seller Sellworld, NJ after 3 dozen + phones, but they accepted a return thankfully, they have been very good to me. Just had to return one that the screen was unresponsive and they took good care of me. If you're looking for good fully unlocked phones, they have done me well.

It's a bit tricky to discern the difference from 'Carrier Unlocked' vs 'Bootloader is unlockable' which is the magic phrase. Good luck on your unlocking endeavors!
