Signal not detecting Sandboxed Play Services

You could try rebooting your phone after installing sandboxed play services.
Then install/reinstall the apps that rely on it for push notifications.

Same Problem - on a clean install of GrapheneOS with GooglePlayServices installed (Battery & other Priviledges allowed) Signal does not use the Sandboxed Play Services.
I'm getting the same messages from Signal with the resulting problem of higher battery comsumption ...

j0NE5 two things come to mind: first make sure Google Play is installed in the same profile. Second, Google Play should be installed before Signal is launched for the first time.

You may need to uninstall Signal and reinstall (or clear the app's storage) for it to work now. Make sure to back up your chats if necessary.

I think signal will work fine without play services. It's not as efficient battery wise. If play services are installed, signal should recognize that, and use it instead for message delivery. You should be aware of molly however. Its a fork of signal it manages its battery consumption better than signal. You can get it from accrecent store.

And lastly: Make sure you have the official Signal app installed and not a fork like Signal FOSS which doesn't come with the Google implementation.

The last time I tried to install Signal it asked me to give GPS SMS permission. I found this odd as signal doesn't handle SMS.

[deleted] I've had this happen with apps that want send an SMS message to verify I own the number and Google Play can fill in the code. Just deny the permission and enter the code manually and it should be fine.

I tried Signal again.
I got the sms 2fa without an issue.
Once I was signed in Signal asked asked me to give Google services sms permission. I did a reboot instead and am not getting the warning message.
Signal is not running in the background so I'm assuming gps has taken over the notifications.

THX - for the all replies, i tried it once again with an fresh GrapheneOS install this morning;
installed GoogleServices first, granted permissions, did a reboot and installed Signal (from GooglePlayStore) - so to be honest pretty much the same procedure as last time; although I'm not sure if I did a reboot after installing GoogleServices.

@[deleted]: I can confirm that the registration sms worked without an issue (no manual PIN entering necessary),
nevertheless GPushService seems not to be used without another reboot; in my case there was still the message at least once "signal is running in the background ..."

Is there a way to check which apps are using the GooglePushService?
Battery consumptoin indicates that Signal is using GPS now - If not i'll just run with my current setting ...

I do not know of a way to check which apps are using Google PS. I tested Signal by sending a message and waiting for a reply.
