Big roaming/SIM card issue on Pixel 7a

Hi!

I have a big issue with mobile data on my Pixel 7a with GrapheneOS. I have a physical Sim card. The Sim card is activated.

I tested the sim card on a different phone and it worked fine there. When I go into the ##4636## menu I see that DSDS is enabled. I also tried to see if my sim card works properly with it disabled.

The issue I am facing is that I have 0 connection on my mobile data. I don't have an exclamation mark at the connection icon. It is full strength icon. However, in the ##4636## menu it shows "Not roaming" (while roaming is enabled in the settings) and it gives me a Signal strength between -100dBm and -90dBm.

It does say that Data service is connected.

When I try to download an app from the playstore it takes forever to load the page (it does load it eventually though) and when I click install it just sits on 0% for 15 minutes before going to 1% etc.

WiFi does not have this problem at all. I also tried switching between 5G and 4G. But there is no difference.

Any ideas?

It might help if you could say which carrier you are using (generally, more details is better than fewer details).

Sounds like you are connected to a 3G network instead of 4G or 5G. You might want to try manually connecting to a 4G network and if that doesn't work, changing your roaming profile.

Last idea and wild guess: Maybe your SIM card is not charged with any money (if it's a prepaid SIM card). It should then connect to the slow 3G network on any phone though, but maybe it just happened to drop to 0 right before you tried it on GrapheneOS.

N1b I don't see profiles in the Sim Tool kit. Only options I have are:

Notifications
Permissions
Storage and cache
Mobile data and Wi-Fi
App battery usage
Open by default

I have 2000 MB of data free on this Sim. It is not prepaid.

Did you first try to connect to a 4G/LTE network manually? You will have to do this step anyway to test different roaming profiles and maybe the Sim Toolkit is not necessary and you are already on the correct profile.

For changing the profile, you need to open the App "Sim Toolkit". On the screen you describe, there should be a big "Open" button on the top left. If it's not visible or greyed out, restart you phone and go directly there again, it should now work. From here go DMI/Settings/Profile and see if any change + restart + waiting a bit will let you connect to your 4G network. Hope this helps.
