Tutanota VPN hassles. Worth it to invest or not?

I just signed up for tutanota for a free account using a VPN. First it refused to make the account. Then I was able to create one using another connection, and entered the account. Fiddled around, changed my password. Then I logged out to test the new password and this time "Credentials incorrect", when in fact they are correct. So the account is now blocked? suspended? Tutanota clearly states itself and VPN friendly. Search on reddit showed many people with similar signup problems.

I've had the worst sign up experience of any email provider I've ever used.

I'm using proton now and want to move away because I want to use it purely with a VPN and am afraid they will suspend my account because of that. I've heard proton doesn't allow hiding your IP. And so I don't wanna risk working with a provider that's gonna suspend my account for using a VPN.

So I decided to go to Tutanota. But now I'm worried if I can trust Tutanota not to suspend my account many months down the road for using a VPN. This would be unacceptable to me as its gonna be my main email. I'm gonna use this email for my normal daily use not anything nefarious.

Tutanota also touts no ip logging. Where as as soon as I entered, right in the settings area, it clearly had a list of all previous sessions with IP address and a popup described it as being kept for 14 days. What the hell?? Is this a no log email or not?

In you guy's experience can I trust Tutanota not to f*ck with me down the road and suspend merely for always using a VPN? Or should I look elsewhere?

When you signup your IP is not logged but it's stored encrypted. Once you're passed signup, there are global settings to ensure IP is not logged.

You or may or may not run into issues at the beginning if you're signing up via Tor or VPN such as your account being blocked or flagged. This could potentially be a false positive, especially when signing up via VPN. The best case is to email them and explain the issue.

This personally happened to me when I signed up and they explained the account was "blocked" by mistake due to the appearance of multiple signups (thanks to the VPN). To this day, I still use a VPN while using Tutanota.

The first connection wasn't letting me sign up. So changed to another and signup was successful. But then shortly the account got disabled. I avoided trying to login again from any other von servers because I didn't wanna pour more "fuel on the fire." 2 different IPs was trouble enough. :)

Invalid credentials usually means invalid credentials. I know it's hard to admit, but likely the password you changed to and the password you noted down do not match.

I remember signing up behind a VPN without hassles. Well, except for the standard restricted account, which got unlocked automatically after a few days. That's 6 months ago. Since then I've used my Tutanota account daily, 99% of the time on their Android app behind a VPN. I've logged in connected to Mullvad, Proton, Tor without issues.

It sounds like you would benefit from reading their privacy policy, and contact their support regarding your account issues.

Actually i found the problem. Silly as hell.

On the login page i was inputting the username. But that's not enough. You gotta put the full email address. That immediately fixed things. How stupid is that?
