Hint: AOSP Files Shortcut to images

If you long press the app icon and afterwards drag and drop Images somewhere on your homescreen, you've created a shortcut perfectly replacing the Gallery if you want.

I wish this would work for video etc too. imo the aosp files app is heavily underdeveloped. it always opens up downloads and copy/ move are as user unfriendly as they could be.

But you would still need the gallery app to display photos from files. So it only helps with organising, not viewing the photos, making the gallery app still needed.

But abother cool thing could be that the files app could view photos instead of the current, bad gallery app

Duckduck as far as i know viewing and editing will mever be part of the aosp files app.

but if you dont want to open you gallery in public or manage your images i'd recommend the method mentioned.

i recommend viewing with the aosp gallery app for security reasons and setting a different one for editing via the share option.

There is a toggle button in the files app to

show files and folders as lists
show them as big squares (to preview images like in a gallery app, but without folder thumbnails)

imo this is still the best way to manage images, even though the "edit" option sadly got removed from the share menu in android 14.

how to comfortably edit images from the files app?
Use Aves for viewing and apps like Fossify Gallery to edit from Aves dropdown menu.
