Is anyone else's Pixel 7 getting slow?

I got my pixel in 2022. I've noticed for the past few months that my Pixel is getting slower, less responsive, sometimes freezes temporarily, generally more sluggish. The PIN screen takes a few seconds before receiving input.

A family member has a Pixel with GOS on it as well but their phone doesn't seem to be having the same issue.

Could it be because I have several secondary profiles? It's sluggish even when they aren't running in the background.

My main profile is a secondary profile. Could it be caused by an app running in Owner? I use RethinkDNS for example.

The storage is 77% full. I have 86 apps in my main profile but most of them are disabled.

KeysPeak it could be due to natural degradation of the electronics as you use it. Maybe you had bad use habits leading to accelerated degradation, maybe even dried thermal paste (apparently someone has an anecdotal report of thermal paste replacement helping with aging devices), or you have a phone case.

I have used my phone a lot, especially by comparison to the other pixel. That might be it.

Though I'm unsure what those bad habits could be?

KeysPeak in my opinion, bringing the phone into the shower, using the phone while charging, keeping the phone under direct sunlight (especially for darker colored phones), charging the phone on top of materials that trap heat, to name a few. Basically, anything that keeps the phone at a high temperature state for long or has to do with moisture is generally bad habit.

The Pixel 7 Pro also does not have a vapor chamber (notebookcheck.net source) so it also hurts performance after a while due to thermal throttling, and it is said that thermal cycling (regular steep temperature changes) will also dry out the thermal paste, leading to poorer thermal conductivity and therefore worsened cooling performance.

KeysPeak don't expect any degradation after 4 years of use. That's nonsense. What is way more likely, is that the battery is on its last leg and can't hold the voltage required for smooth operation. The phone then downclocks the CPU and everything starts getting slower. If you have bad battery life as well, I would consider getting that battery replaced.

SplatterGames Hmm, okay. What's the process like? I feel very uncomfortable leaving my phone with a technician. Even with super secure PINs. Wonder if I could do it myself?

KeysPeak with a Pixel 7? Hardly. If you go through the official channels, they will most likely wipe the phone, so make backups. If you go 3rd party, it depends on the shop. Just look for good reviews and you should be fine. There's still honest and reputable places around!

KeysPeak Google and partner stores need the default OS to complete the repair, since the diagnostic mode is part of the stock image. The testing at the end of the repair is mandatory (mostly for liability reasons).

SplatterGames I'll probably just continue using it as is until I get the next phone, which I'm due for next year anyway. Wiping my phone will be a huge hassle.

silly question, is there some benchmark app that would somehow objectively measure the slowness (you would have to know the score for fresh pixel 7).

I have pixel 7a, it works, but I dont do anything intensive on the device. battery cycles is almost 400. It does not discharge faster than usual.

I bought my 7 brand new about a year ago and have only been using it as my daily driver for a couple months and it already is really starting to lag pretty horribly. For the first few weeks its performance was near indistinguishable from my 9 Pro XL but one day it just tanked and has been laggy ever since.

Novaliss Yeah I know, but I don't know what's going on with it. Been considering switching back to my 9 Pro XL but I really don't want to. I much prefer the size and form factor of the 7. It lags when opening up apps, the browser lags when typing in the address bar, I get more force closes than normal... something is definitely up with it. I might wipe it and reinstall GOS to see if that fixes it.

KeysPeak No need for third party repair. I replaced the battery of my Pixel 7 myself a while ago by purchasing an official battery and tools from ifixit. I used their guide to install it.
Just be careful not to damage it though.

Is a Vpn in use?
Is your device updated?
Many apps running simultaneous?
Many tabs in browser(s)?
Rebooted lately?

Storage space low? Check and mitigate with:

Make good backups in case the hardware is getting faulty.

Before a full reset;
Settings > System > Reset options > Reset app preferences
Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Mobile Network Settings

And after a factory reset you don't need to reinstall.

My P6 got extreme laggy under GrapheneOS. Maybe too old now. I installed the last Pixel Rom to test. It's not laggy at all. Bummer. Since it dosn't get any more security patches I will not use it any longer. Just playing around the next days.

skully373 Similar story here, but it did not tank one day but gradually started performing worse. Also wiping my phone is too much of a hassle. I am waiting for the new motorola signature 27, but I think it is too big. On the other hand I want to get away from google's awful fingerprint scanner, modem and thermal problems. I am in such a pickle deciding if I want to buy motorola or pixel 10.
