For a while now I have noticed that per-app mobile data permissions do not persist after restarting my phone.
Device: Pixel 8
OS: GrapheneOS
Profiles affected: All profiles
Steps to reproduce:
- Go to Settings → Apps → [app] → Mobile data & Wi-Fi.
- Disable the Mobile data permission for an app.
- Restart the phone.
- Check the app’s Mobile data setting again.
Expected behaviour:
The Mobile data permission should remain disabled after reboot.
Actual behaviour:
The Mobile data permission is enabled again after reboot.
Additional details:
- This occurs across all my profiles, not just the main profile.
- It also occurs with freshly installed apps.
- It happens after normal reboots.
- Only the Mobile data permission resets; other app permissions and settings remain unchanged.
- Wi-Fi settings/permissions are not affected.
I disable mobile data access for many apps because I do not want them using cellular data when I am away from Wi-Fi, both to reduce unnecessary background activity and to avoid additional battery usage.
As mentioned, this has been occurring for some time. After restarting the phone, I have to manually go through all my apps and disable mobile data again.
Is this expected behaviour, or is there additional information I can provide to help investigate?
