AIB mobile banking app - "Your device isn't compatible with this version"

c123ian As a temporary workaround I am using the weblogin but this is piss poor from AIB and in fact, I have left a negative review and I am considering going into my branch and just closing my account.

Hi, same here, unable to open app. "Device incompatible with your device". Secondary profile with google play services running. Phone up to date. It was working fine until today.

The app still works for me on owner profile. I haven't tried logging out and logging in again in case I get locked out.

When I search for the app on playstore I can't see it anymore only can see the NI version

Here's a list of all the steps I've taken.

Attempted to log into AIB Mobile from a Private Space with Sandboxed Google Play Services installed.
App prompted a mandatory update. Update attempt via Google Play Store returned "Your device isn't compatible with this version."
Locked and reopened the Private Space, then performed a full device restart.
Force-stopped the AIB app and cleared its cache.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Google Play Services. (Defo not needed but still tried it)

Confirmed the same failure occurs on the main Owner profile (no Private Space involved).

Tested Aurora Store as an alternative install method, confirmed it also fails, as the app's Play Integrity check runs independently of install source.
Tested installing Play Services into the main Owner profile specifically, restarted the device, then installed AIB directly from the official Google Play Store, exact same result.

No Play Integrity API notification was thrown by GrapheneOS at any point, making it unclear whether rejection is integrity-based or a genuine compatibility block enforced by AIB (I'd assume it's because they can detect a "modified version of android" as they would put it.)

I am currently using the AIB web login as a temporary workaround.
AIB are absolute dinosaurs and don't deserve to handle my money if this is the outcome of using a secure and private OS. :)

That's brutal if they just completely block modified android roms.
As of right now my app is still working but I've preemptively put all my bills and subscriptions on auto-pay (that weren't already) and set up a standing order to send my typical monthly spending to my Revolut.
I don't particularly want to change bank because of the hassle (which of course benefits them) and I'm also not confident that other banks won't do the same in the future.

If they truly never allow it to run on modified android roms I'll probably just install it on a secondary phone and keep those automated payments and standing orders running.

I don't know if much will come from it but maybe we should send in some complaints to them

idealizebush hi, I'd like to add to this. I currently work with aib in branch and I'm getting this error now. We released a whole new app and its being released to customers on a phased bases. Its being pushed as an update instead of a needing to download app but this update seems to break graphene. The old app worked perfect for me but I'm on the same boat as you an unable to login. I've had to set it up to log in via browser with a card reader instead of using the app for the meantime. Was on the phone with internet banking for 45 mins plus and we got no where with the app. Card reader seems to be the solution and I guess this can be seen as more private without the invasive app. I have organiser for the internet banking team to keep me updated internally. If I get a fix I'll let you know

oOo yes complaints will be good. I'm staff and have put a few in myself regarding this as its impacted me as well and at the minute the only solution seems to be logging in via website with card reader......

idealizebush I'm using web login as well, but now you'll not be able to do online purchases as the app fails to verify on "outdated app". anything above 50 i think.

Krang can set up a SMS code paired with a password for online purchases instead of app verification from within the browser internet banking.

I've been using this method for a while as I keep my finance apps on a separate user and can never buy something that requires app verification when on my daily drive

Since the recent and now stable GrapheneOS update, 2026071100/01, we now have a new toggle:

replace secure (exec) spawning feature with a new implementation with improved app compatibility and a per-app toggle replacing the previous global toggle

This was until now a system wide-only option. Try if this changes things for you.

I just tested this and got it working.

Here's what I did

Install the Aurora Store version, then sign in.
When it says "Setup Security," force-close the app and clear its cache.
Next, go to Settings > Secure App Spawning > See all apps > Private > AIB, and disable it.
I was able to complete the secure set up and I can now full you the app.

It seems like a temp workaround as it keeps asking me to configure security and not sure what happens when any of the other options are selected.

idealizebush although mine ia a different bank app, i did the same as your steps 2 & 3 as it was already Aurora-installed and working before the 2026071101 update. It also worked like yours.
Have you tried logging out and going into another profile and coming back and reopening it again? On mine, it showed a malloc alert but i was able to open the app again after ignoring the alert.

I installed the app via Aurora, logged in, force closed, disabled secure app spawning for the app, opened, logged in ok

BUT now it says

we are upgrading the security in our app. To continue using the app tap "update"

I can tap "update" or "logout"

The update option opens a browser window which bounces back to the app and a message appears

Authentication Failed
This setup was not successful. This could be due to a technical issue.

And there is a button to try again, which just sends me back to the first notification and around in a loop

It's a bit flaky for me and doesn't let me operate the app completely. It glitches out when I attempt to navigate to Payments & Transfers.

effervescent-effective known aib app problem when loggin in across different users or phones. You need to delete the app and redownload to get around the infinite loop, make note of your registration number or you'll need to call their internet banking team or go to branch to retrieve it.

The bit where it takes you to browser is a cookies check and it can fail when cookies are blocked

I'd be hesitant on deleting the app tho as the new update causes it to be "unavailable on your current device"

I'm still using the browser logging and card reader
