I've found that Signal has reproducible builds issue, which imo is extremely important. What's situation with reproducible builds of Molly?

Also regarding websocket efficiency issue of Signal, they did resolve it, though they choose other implementation. Did Molly follow Signals implementation of fine–tuned websocket notifications or kept own?

gta3 This is possible, but not planned for now. Stuff like this makes only sense after implementing remote attestation. Because if the receiver uses a fork or signal instead of molly we can't enforce that.

By default, if you use UnifiedPush, it uses less battery than Signal. This is one of the reasons I use it.
DB encryption etc is nice, but on GOS it provides no real benefit, as even AFU device is forensics-proof.

I find Molly to consume battery at a ridiculous rate compared to my preferred message app.
That is the reason why I stopped using Molly.

no play services, no G@@gle anything. Just GrapheneOS and my messaging app, which uses significantly less battery.
note: my battery (P8a) is at 20% after three days, yes I know I am not a typical user..
Messaging app screen use 16 minutes, background use 2 days 3 hours, 21% of the (80% total battery used).
I know from experience that Molly causes my battery to drain on a daily basis, which I was not prepared to accept so I removed Molly.

DeletedUser499 this is not unusual, you should be glad app uses only so little battery considering the fact it uses websocket. And realize that battery percentage used is relative to other apps and systems. It just means it is your particular biggest battery hog, but even if we presume it discharging from full, in three days it means 1% per hour, likely less, considering other apps and systems also use battery power.

DeletedUser499 Consider setting up Molly using UnifiedPush instead of Websocket. This will solve the battery drain issues.
This is not a problem with Molly, it's a problem with your setup.

I've tried Molly for the past two days and I have to say the app is excellent. I've deleted Signal and installed it on several phones (mine and from my family).

I installed Molly on a spare, P6a running standard G@@gle android, G@@gle everything is installed by default, and overnight on standby Molly consumed 37% of the battery consumption, it ran in the background for 50 minutes, there are no contacts in the phone, it was just used in this instance as a test bed for Molly, so who or what is Molly communicating with and burning through my battery...
Molly may be the messenger for you, you defend it admirably, but having used it in GrapheneOS on two different Pixels and used it on Pixels running G@@gle android, and running it on Samsung phones with G@@gle, my non scientific, but observational approach over years tells me Molly eats batteries. So I don't use it.

Self hosting would be the best option if you already do any self hosting.

yes, its a normal signal account on normal signal servers, just a different app

@Nuttso I've seen that you want Molly to be audited but don't have the funds. Perhaps radicallyopensecurity.com can help you, it's a non-profit cybersecurity org with a good track record. I don't guarantee they do audits for free, but it may be worth reaching out.
