I went through trying Navidrome/Symfonium, Jellyfin/Finamp, and Plex/Plexamp.

I like Navidrome but their support for star ratings and smart playlists is a bit hacked together and most clients don't support it.

Similarly with Jellyfin. Finamp has a great interface but the server doesn't support smart playlists or star ratings even though it's been requested for years.

I don't like the direction Plex has gone as a company but their music experience is absolutely stellar. Plexamp is a great product and I already have a lifetime pass so I'm using that for now. I wish I could use Finamp but Jellyfin's lack of smart playlists and star ratings is a deal breaker.

I have all three running but primarily use Plex/Plexamp. I run all of them in Docker containers on my Synology NAS.

I figured out how to download and set up jellyfin on my Arch Linux laptop. I just can't figure out how to add libraries for music and videos etc.

In the first week of Graphene setup, I've switched to a local player, the Seeker app for downloading non-streaming releases and Rimusic.

dmzee Might I suggest Metro list? ViMusic seems to be abandoned and RiMusic is dead.
Metro list has been the most reliable out of any I've used.

Still in the process of moving (GOS is part of my journey of detaching from the big corporations) but the plan is:

Separate DAP with the music on that I actually care about as FLAC or MP3
Spotify Free on my phone for casual listening, but I like the look of these Youtube streaming apps and may go that route instead

For radio: RadioDroid (supports export/import .m3u in case it goes down)
For music on demand: pay for YT Music subscription, but do not use their front-end (like clones/successors of RiMusic)
For "all-time-classic" you want to own: hunt for your bands on Bandcamp and purchase tracks/albums
Music recognition: Audile with one of supported services freemium

On GrapheneOS, I have a 100% local music setup where I use Auxio to play audio tracks. Most of my audio sources were first exported with a sampling rate of 44.1Hz / 16 bits, which corresponds to the CD format, then encoded in FLAC for archiving. I sometimes need to create .xml files for metadata. To export my audio files to my GrapheneOS device, I convert the tracks to Ogg Opus to massively reduce the size while maintaining high audio quality. The audio quality is similar to MP3 320 kbps with a reduction in size of half or more.

I have a separate profile I use to wireguard into my home network and then access my plex music library. I am typically more an audiobook person for flights and travel where I would not have internet access so I rarely keep music on my phone locally.

My intent was to also have android auto on that profile too but every time I try to set it up, when I hook it up to a car i am constantly bombarded with the "No installed application compatible with USB device" . I have tried a few suggestions from other threads but no luck so far.

vvf69107 great reply, gonna look into some of them. Have you tried simpmusic yet? Its been solid for me for weeks now. Once Rimusic stopped working i used newpipe for awhile. But i wanted an app that is similar to ytmusic and spotify when it comes to suggesting playlists, and songs, etc.

I used symfonium plus a personal navidrome server, before switching to symfonium with my whole library stored on my phone (synced to my computer with syncthing) when I got a phone with enough storage for that.
auxio and phocid are also great open source local music players, or check out tempo for an open source subsonic client
