Is Rethink DNS a VPN?

I use Proton VPN currently. Does Rethink DNS also hide my IP address or is it something else? Is Rethink DNS better than Proton, and should I use it?

What Rethink DNS is not?
It isn't a VPN, at least not yet. Though, it is effective in circumventing internet censorship in most if not all countries. Rethink DNS uses VPN APIs to only route the DNS traffic and not the actual internet traffic.

Rethink DNS isn't a tracker. Rethink DNS logs DNS requests if a user opts-in. Rethink doesn't sell any user information or use it for anything else other than to provide analytics and reports to the user.

Apart from adding features to the existing product, we're working on a VPN next (primarily, as an anti-censorship tool); and plan to start working on a cloud-based browser.

But you can setup a WireGuard, Orbot, SOCKS5 or HTTP(S)-Proxy within RethinkDNS.

Hi, I could try and explain, but it's probably better explained on their website: https://rethinkdns.com/faq The questions "What is Rethink DNS?" and "What Rethink DNS is not?" already explain a lot.

Should you use it? I don't know. You should use a tool to achieve something you need/want, not because it exists or because other people use it.
I used it on a non-GOS device for content blocking and the firewall functionalities, but personally I don't need it on GOS. I also found it a difficult tool to configure back then, understanding the possible settings and their combinations requires quite a bit of knowledge of networking stuff - more knowledge than I have.
