some apps don't work well using sandboxed google play

for example the Home Front Command app is not always showing alerts.. i mean it is working well until it is stop alerting for good..
last time that it happened i needed to reinstall it..

another example is the moovit app i've mentioned in the past..
it didn't launch at all for me for long periods of time..

when i contacted moovit they said they don't support sandboxed google play..

i love the relative freedoms of gos but there are some downsides.

lovefromisrael you have been with GrapheneOS for so long that just the question why some apps do not play well in restrictive environment comes across strange. Of course, not all of them will work for reasons that may vary from app to app. What is important, is that you build your working ecosystem around apps that work, preferably without use of "additional tools" like sandboxed Google Play.

can you make it bold on the grapheneos website that many apps wont work? even major ones? and maybe include a list of problematic appa from the play store?

i think there are many people like me who need it in the front page of grapheneos. otherwise they won't notice it..

lovefromisrael it should not be mentioned there at all. GrapheneOS doesn't come with sandboxed Google Play preinstalled, but as is. And most of the FOSS apps just work on it.

lovefromisrael I don't think it is fair to accuse GOS of not being fair. The information on app compatibility is perfectly clear. So is the information about possible workarounds if apps don't work. And the information about what to tell app makers if their apps don't work. And the information about Sandboxed Google Play.
GOS cannot be expected to test each and every app and issue warnings about possible specific incompatibilities (although in fact they do, e.g. about Google Pay).
In fact, app makers are the ones who should warn if their apps require Google Play Services (or about whatever dependencies their products have). And, above all, phone users should inform themselves and choose their apps wisely.
