Google account without phone number?

I’m setting up a profile for Google Services in GOS. In the past (years ago) I used to be able to make throwaway Google accounts all the time. But now, it seems impossible. I don’t have a SIM card or eSIM setup yet. When I go to make an account, it doesn’t ask for a phone number, but still requires me to verify with one. Of course, if I verify, it fails saying I need to add a SIM card. I’ve tried tor, Vanafium, my regular WiFi connection, nothing. Not sure if anyone knows a solution. If I can’t find a solution that doesn’t involve me handing over a phone number, I might have to try Aurora. I know GOS doesn’t recommend it. Not sure what I can really do though. Are there any major drawbacks to security with Aurora or the apps it installs? I’ve seen “no automatic updates” are mentioned in older posts, but I think that’s been resolved now. For example, it doesn’t have less sandboxing than Google Play Store and Google Play Services, right?

AffableAlligator How did you try to create the account? Google blocks Tor and VPN. They are much more sceptical if you try to open the account on a browser compared to create the account on a fresh profile through playstore.

So have you tried creating the account in a public WiFi net inside the playstore app, on a blank secondary profile? At least in Switzerland this still works most times.

Once you have the account you can switch to Tor and use that account with Tor only once you leave the public WiFi.

You can rent a number for 15 minutes for just a few cents for verification codes from online providers. Then remove the number after verification.

Vincent96 over the last year Google changed how authentication works when creating an account. Now you’re forced to scan a QR code with your phone. It then generates a text message that you need to send to Google for “device verification”. This seems to happen on all platforms, but on mobile I think it expects to be able to create an sms message directly in your messaging app. A lot of the sms rental services I’ve found only allow receiving. Maybe renting a longer term physical number would work, but that can get pricey depending on your degree of compartmentalization.

Even if you have a sim card inserted it doesn't work. I've been trying to create an account and I encounter the same issue as you

Most likely they will adapt, though it will cost. The Demand is still there, so the Offer will come. It's anyway will be easier and cheaper than running cheogram voip number

Unfortunately, for those who can't skip corp accounts (google etc), for example for Antigravity (it looks like it requires age verified account), it will be difficult to preserve privacy/anonymity without account resellers. And Monero can be of direct help here.

Seriously, looking for different ways to register a Google account is not a long term solution. While GOS supports using GMS the less invasive way, it still is huge tradeoff for privacy and liberty. Please consider another approaches for consuming services without the need to have a Google account. The current way is just a dead end.

not-a-rola What's wrong with being antifragile? There are and will be services from Google or any other big tech that can't be replaced.

There is no replacement for Google Maps as for up-to date commercial information, like opening hours, contact information or if a POI still exist.
It's great it doesn't require an account, but it's not always the case.

Thus, instead of being stubborn denialist for any FAANG-MATANA, there is an option to get semi-anonymous ways to use what's indeed required and irreplaceable.
It's still semi-anonymous, because unless you bought a Revolut account on a black market, in the future, your TX using disposable card to pay for any of AI premium services, can be back-linked to you.

That's exactly the purpose of counterfeit accounts for those who require to install applications from Play Store (those who doesn't want to use Aurora Store for security reasons).

But that's contrary to freedom, you're locking yourself out, while still allowing apple, google to know the number is yours because one day you have contacted your new friend and they have saved you under your name, and then have placed an online order for a pizza and the courier has saved your number with your address. Don't mix anonymity with "not being aware of".

I'm free if I can use what I want without creating a clear link to "real me". And one needs tools for that (XMR for anonymous payments, account markets for accounts). Without them, it's not possible (unless you abandon digital world as a whole)
