Mullvad app: too good to be true?

Looking into switching VPN provider.

Mullvad really stands out: No subscription, 5 euro a month and can be paid month to month. No log and fast. Also open source.

I might just be paranoid. but can it be a trap?

Do we even deserve something this good? What is the catch?

pizzadequeso Mullvad is the main VPN provider recommended by this community and the GrapheneOS team; the app is tested on GrapheneOS and works perfectly, I’ve never had any issues with Mullvad, and the team is very competent. Of course, it’s still a VPN, mean you’re transferring your trust from your ISP to the VPN, the VPN adds no security improvements or little for web browsing because almost everything is already encrypted via HTTPS, It doesn't prevent companies from tracking you if you're already using their services, and it will nothing do to fingerprinting for which there are no reliable measures.

So it depends on whether you need a VPN and why, what you want to do with it etc.

Xtreix it will nothing do to fingerprinting

i mean sharing an ip (hopefully you are on a server used by others) and a widely used DNS config,
is kinda reducing fingerprinting information

(but i know what you ment ^^)

Mullvad is "suffering from success" because it's so well-known for being reliably anonymous that a lot of its IPs are banned from a lot of popular services :P

Protip for other Mullvad users: the Israel server #2 is one of the few I've found that are not blocked on either Youtube or Reddit.

(Of course, you can always make throwaway accounts using an anonymous email address. They're probably fingerprinting me anyway.)

dabvi6e1 At least for Youtube there are plenty that work. I usually make custom lists of IPs that work with different websites and the YT one has about 80, and then I haven't even tested all countries.
