@GrapheneOS
Dear GrapheneOS and Motorola Teams,
I am writing to respectfully request the implementation of dedicated hardware indicators for microphone and camera access in the upcoming Motorola hardware. This feature would enhance user privacy and security transparency.
Apple's macOS introduced indicators that illuminate whenever the camera is active. This hardware-level approach provides users with immediate, tamper-resistant visibility into cam access.
Software-based indicators, while useful, can be bypassed by sophisticated malware or compromised system components. A hardware-level indicator that operates independently of the OS provides a critical layer of trust that users cannot be deceived about. This is particularly important for detecting unauthorized surveillance,
identifying compromised devices and building user confidence in privacy-sensitive environments
Proposed Implementation:
A simple LED indicator near each sensor (camera and microphone) that activates at the hardware level when those components receive power would provide:
1.Tamper resistance – Cannot be disabled by software exploits
2.Immediate awareness – Users notice unexpected activity instantly
3.Reduced trust burden – Less reliance on software integrity alone
For privacy-focused communities using GrapheneOS and for Motorola's broader user base, this feature would represent a meaningful step toward hardware-rooted privacy guarantees. It addresses the concern of knowing when your device is listening or watching, regardless of what the software claims.
I respectfully urge to consider this feature in future development roadmaps.This will potentially set a new hardware standard for phones.Thankyou.
