Help. What is going on here with my hotspot.

So I'm using my pixel 10 pro XL with graphenos as a
hotspot | have a fast USB c to USB c cable going from
the phone to my PC and | have USB tethering enabled
but it's sooo slow | can load YouTube or stream anything
on my PC.

In my experience, these phones have better antennas than pixels.

Try having your phone not close to metal and leaning against a window if you can for better signal.

Sorry I don't have the silver bullet to your issue. Do you have different cell providers and plans for the 2 phones?

There's a big difference between an authorized cellular distributor and the primary network providers (e.g. verizon) as well as getting the most expensive plan with t-mobile or anything cheaper.

Cheaper plans and cellular distributors (e.g. mint mobile) probably have slower data and intentionally throttled speed.

Is the GOS phone weak signal?

Johnnyloans no it's showing I have 5g. When I had the s22 ultra its USB tethering was as fast as regular Internet

AngWay there's no point opening a second thread on the same issue.

If you want to diagnose your problem, you need to provide some information.
Showing "5G" can mean anything. 5G can be the speed of EDGE, it can also be the speed of fiber.

What results do you get when:
performing a speed test (speedtest.net can be used here) on your phone directly, vs. your tethered device shortly afterwards without moving the phone?

Right now it's not clear if the connection itself is the problem or the tethering process.

Transfer a large file to/from your phone like a video and view the speed as well.

Internet test will be megabits per second (lowercase b) and your computer will probably show megabytes (capital B)

The number of bars is more important than 5G. Could be 1/5 bars

n3t_admin Ok I ran some tests. And for some reason the graphenos form website this website will not load up and I can't access it I had to disable my wifi and use my cell service on my phone to access this site weird.

But anyways here's what the tests say, I ran tests on speedtest.net, fast.com, and speedtest.net.in here's what it says.

Speedtest.net without tethering enabled so just on my phone 43.03Mbps ping 44ms I ran a second time and got 31.27Mbps ping 42ms. With tethering enabled so on my computer 0.45Mbps ran a second time 0.66Mbps

Fast.com without tethering enabled just on my phone 2.0Mbps with tethering enabled so on my computer 270Kbps

Speedtest.net.in without tethering enabled so on my phone 59.80Mbps upload 2.18Mbps ping 50ms jitter 10ms with tethering enabled so on my computer 0.58Mbps ping 54ms jitter 11ms.

But that's what I'm getting I really hope this helps u diagnose the problem, I remember on my s22 ultra I would pull 100Mbps or more on my computer while using everything the exact same way. Anyways much thanks.

Johnnyloans ok I have plenty of service I'm in the same spot that I was when I used my s22 ultra but got exceptional performance out of that. See my reply to the other commentor on what I am pulling as far as speed. Thanks

AngWay Okay, that's a good start. Looks like it is indeed the tethering where issues arise. Really stupid question: have you tried a different cable?

n3t_admin yea iv tried other cable's in fact I bought a special USB c to USB c cable that is a high speed cable which did help when I was using my s22 ultra but it doesn't seem to make a difference with the pixel running graphenos.

Idk if it's just the operating system or what. It could be that graphenos just isn't set up to give the same speeds as a Samsung. But I do know it's so slow that it's almost laughable

AngWay do you have any other device you could test the tethering with - like another laptop or even another phone - just to confirm it's really GOS?

Btw, what if you try sharing your hotspot via Wi-Fi? Has that made any difference?

There's just quite a few factors that could be at play here.

n3t_admin I have tried the wifi option as well and it's just as bad if not worse.... I have also tried it with a second PC I have running windows 11. The computer I'm using it with right now is running Linux mint. .. it's the same with both

AngWay okay, then it's probably the GOS phone. Might be related to setup, might also just be buggy - but that's definitely not normal behavior.

Do you have any VPNs active on the phone?

n3t_admin no don't have any VPNs at all.. I'm gonna try to mess around with it on windows and see if it will do any better I haven't fully explored it yet. But I don't see why it won't on Linux because the s22 ultra worked fine and I got a connection it's just super slow. I really hate I'm having this problem out of graphenos because I do plan on keeping it as my main phone it's just there's times I'm in places that a mobile hotspot with my phone is necessary and I used this option a lot with the s22 ultra. I really appreciate the help tho. I guess it's just the phone or operating system

Record the speed of a video file transfer from the phone. To test the transfer speed between the 2 devices.

AngWay it's just a shot in the dark, but it also might just be Verizon shenanigans. If possible, see if a relative would lend their SIM card, preferably from a different provider. Might be the combination of:
Verizon - GOS
Verizon - Google Pixel
Provisioning profile being broken on Pixels.

As far as I am aware, cellular providers can actively throttle hotspot traffic (since it's visible as hotspot traffic to them). Maybe that wasn't the case on the Samsung, for some reason. I would at least test with a different SIM before taking other, more invasive measures.

Changing the default TTL to 65 wouldn't have any adverse affects, on the hotspot or not.
