Johnnyloans as mentioned, unfortunately turning dev options off resets the toggle.
The plan is to leave it at max and have a portable DAC/amp control the volume.
In regards to tinnitus, unfortunately I already have it, but appreciate the warning nonetheless.

Thanks for this insight, this is probably the most problematic in terms of security. (Though I'd argue leaving phone unlocked around people you dont trust is problematic in itself).
But frankly, thats not that big a concern for my usecase. The phone not booting and such, however, would be rather painful. I guess I will make sure to backup my important stuff before trying.
