Pixel 9/10 pro fold users - are you enjoying it with GrapheneOS?

Just on the Z Fold 7 size, it is a lot lighter than my 9 pixel fold was. Night and day. The battery size doesn't tell the whole story, I find my fold 7 lasts longer than my pixel 10 pro XL on StockOS, and it is comparable to 10 pro XL with GrapheneOS. I don't know if it is software optimisation and/or the superior chipset making it run more efficiently. When it comes to fold multitasking and software to make use of the hardware the Fold 7 is lightyears ahead. I also babied my pixel fold 9 as a secondary device and the hardware bit the dust before 100 battery cycles. I've been daily driving the Fold 7 for far longer without any special care and it hasn't skipped a beat. I don't trust Pixel Fold hardware, I get the appeal of having GrapheneOS on it but when it comes to the phone itself it is far behind the Fold 7 and I would caution anybody against purchasing a Google folding device. I might try again sometime down the line when they've refined the hardware for a few generations.

Aeleon Indeed Samsung excels in hw, their DeX is still lightyears ahead usability-wise, IF you don't care about privacy. As much as I liked it, it doesn't justify the 0 privacy. I've tried debloating, etc, but it's the road to nowhere.

Thus, I'm with GOS, LLGOS!

At one time I was even considering getting z fold 7 for reading/content consumption (no logins, no sim, etc) and continue using the regular pixel as a main personal device. But that's bulky and I may as well wait out for the foldable iPhone (if it ever comes out) which should give a better privacy/security than z fold 7.

traveller What is your definition of bulky? I tend to use the fold 7 more because it is lighter and smaller than my Pixel 10 XL (I had the 7 and 8 pro before that). Samsung privacy and security is good enough if you aren't using it for sensitive information. iOS is likely going to be very restricted when it comes to features and functionality on a fold compared to OneUI. Split screen functionality on the Fold 7 is far more advanced than on the Google Fold as well. I don't mean to sound like a salesman for the Fold 7 but it's an impressive device. It lacks the inbuilt Magnets of Pixel 10 (and I assume the Apple Fold), that's my only real complaint against it.

wtf are you talking about? there is no privacy with Samsung. Though like with apple, I suppose.
I've tried to debloat/limit Samsung and have dropped this dumb idea because there is no way you can reliably do it, assume some requests are expectedly are exempt from VPN and thus control via rethinkdns or alike

Even by this weird logic, original Pixel is 2x more private, as it shares all your data with only one corp (google) and not two (google+Samsung).

People have different preferences. There isn't a single, correct answer to threat modeling or what people are comfortable with.

DeletedUser720 No you're not understanding. Privacy is not just the outside parties, privacy is also what you make available to others. Hence the qualifier about not signing in, using a Sim etc. That is usually how people lose most privacy, whether they're using Graphene or something else.

My experience basically matches that of starglider and I agree with every point he made. (Except for the price, sort of - I got a slightly used one for nearly half the new price 😛).

I will add two points, one positive and one negative:

Positive: gaming and especially emulation. A lot of the games I enjoy (strategy, tactics, and narrative games) require a decent sized screen to be playable, so I can now work through much of the stuff in my backlog while travelling or waiting. Furthermore, Windows API emulation is in its infancy on Android (it's nowhere close to Proton on Linux), but it's already good enough to play many older games. I am currently playing This is the Police 2 (Android build meant for tablets) and Shadowrun: Hong Kong (Windows build) and they're great on this screen.
- Negative: if you use a lot of (FOSS) utility apps, many lack good support for foldables. Launchers, keyboards, cameras. Either use official ones (deny network permissions and don't let them talk to GPS), or put up with some jankiness. I hope to personally contribute some PRs to those projects.

For reading and media consumption you may consider a dedicated hardware, since one doesn't usually read on the go. I use the following completely offline for this purpose and it's a real candy.

EverettHitch Thanks, the idea of a foldable was that this device is always in your pocket, and you don't have to carry a tablet in a backpack. And whenever you need a larger screen it is always at your disposal.
But I decided to wait out until Google catches up to at least Z Fold 7 (in a few years perhaps?). Unless they ditch this device class entirely as they tend to do to unsuccessful (in terms of sales) products (which current Pixel Fold seems to be)
