- I have a 1 profile grapheneos setup that includes use of Private Space
- I use Private Space for Google Play Store and apps from Play Store that I couldn't get to work in the non-private space
- The other app sources I use are the Grapheneos app store, accrescent and apps I can get to work with Obtainium
- The only way I've so far managed to get WhatsApp to work, is by installing in WhatsApp from Play Store in Private Space
- I tried to restrict the privacy violations of WhatsApp, by only allowing WhatsApp app to contact scopes (rather than entire 'Contacts and Accounts' permission
- I populated the grapheneos contacts app by exporting contacts from an Android phone, to then import into Grapheneos
- Issues I've encountered:
1) Contact scopes seems limited to 100 phone numbers. In this day and age, that seems a very significant constraint (I am quietly confident there's billions of smartphone users with well over 100 phone numbers in their contacts app on whatever phone OS they use)
2) It seems any time I add an additional contact to the contacts app, I can't get WhatsApp to recognise the new contact. That includes when I make the new contact one of the chosen 100 added to contact scopes. In the battle of attrition, I eventually gave up and allowed WhatsApp full 'Contacts and accounts' permission. That still didn't allow WhatsApp to see the new contact (nor any other that wasn't previously in contact scopes for WhatsApp). I've thus now also removed Contact Scopes for WhatsApp. That again hasn't changed the symptoms.
Can anyone please how I overcome this barrier? Any help is much appreciated.
