Hi,

I have the pixel 6 and in 3 months I will have new cellphone from my workplace, I use graphene since a week and love it but I wondered if using a google phone is much more difficult to control the google stuffs everywhere, maybe samsung with graphene or another brand is better?

what do you think?
thanks again

ninjanoir789 Hi. GrapheneOS is only supported on Pixel devices. There are various security related reasons for this. See the official docs for more details: https://grapheneos.org/faq#supported-devices.

Regarding phones from Samsung: because their phones ship with Google Play Store and its dependacies as system apps, you not only have to trust Google but also Samsung. This applies to other OEMS which ship with Google Play Store.

Samsung as all the same Google stuff as AOSP, but on top all the additional Samsung stuff. GrapheneOS is based on the barebones AOSP, which is the least amount of Google stuff you can get.

ninjanoir789 As mentioned above GrapheneOS can only be installed onto a Pixel device. The reason being that it is only Pixels that support alternate OS and allowing them full use/access to all the hardware security features.

Samsungs hardware offers a certain level of parity that could be utilised well by the project however Samsungs priority for their devices is not to sell them as references devices for developers to take advantage of but as enterprise devices.

Their focus on enterprise and reassuring corporate customers means that they implemented Knox and efuses that result in all hardware based security features becoming locked out to any OS you flash on it, regardless of the bootloader state (locked/unlocked).

No other device manufacturer meets or exceeds the quality of the hardware or software/firmware on offer from Google as it stands.
