itsjpb Phreeli is a T-Mobile MVNO and has no control over what T-Mobile does with user data and metadata. Instead of subscribing to Phreeli, you should get an eSIM from https://silent.link/ for a flat fee of $9. It always uses roaming mode with pay-as-you-go data from a choice of many carriers around the world. It defaults to using the cheapest available carrier with the option to explicitly choose a carrier instead. You can combine it with a VOIP service used over a VPN for traditional calls/texts not tied to the cellular subscription. This avoids having a number tied to your cellular subscription which is far better for privacy. You can buy a new eSIM for $9 when you switch to a new phone to avoid it being tied to the previous one.
The main founder of Phreeli recently left CalyxOS users without any updates after he was removed as a director and then later pushed out of the organization. He didn't permit an orderly transition where updates could be continued. CalyxOS users haven't received the 2025-06-05 or later patch level due to the situation. He previously joined the attacks on GrapheneOS by Copperhead and took full advantage of the situation to create CalyxOS including hiring one of the Copperhead developers involved in the takeover on GrapheneOS. He escalated it and spent years making personal attacks and inaccurate technical claims about the project. He has always provided products/services with shoddy private/security and false marketing. He has close to zero involvement in advancing privacy or security in any way. His career has been built around reselling T-Mobile cellular service both at Calyx and now Phreeli. He wasn't able to legally enrich himself at Calyx and faced opposition from the rest of the board so now he's gone from there and working at a dubious for-profit instead.
One of the other 3 co-founders of Phreeli is openly a Kiwi Farms user who has engaged in an extreme level of libel and harassment towards the founder of GrapheneOS and many other people. He has a history of leaking personal information and private conversations as part of targeting people with hate with lies and misrepresentations going far beyond his attacks on GrapheneOS. He involved Kiwi Farms in the harassment towards us through his participation on the site.
No one who supports GrapheneOS should pay any money to Phreeli. The attacks on GrapheneOS and our team from the incredibly dishonest content both people published attacking us are still ongoing on a daily basis. They're responsible for an immense amount of harassment, especially the one who published an extraordinarily dishonest character assassination video with the clear goal of directing harassment towards the founder of this project and causing as much harm to the project itself as possible too. Phreeli is clearly not for GrapheneOS users since using cellular service from people trying to destroy the OS project you use doesn't make much sense. Use https://silent.link/ and avoid this trash.
