I tried futo and while it was good, it worked, and I liked the offline voice typing, gboard is currently better in my opinion. I use it with network permission denied and for now I'm comfortable with that personally.
But I haven't tried futo in a while, perhaps I'll get it and try it again.
I went hardcore get rid of Google everything for a while and you can honestly get open source stuff that will do the job and do it well enough but I started missing the polish of apps like gboard and Google maps which is so damn handy especially while travelling, not even apple maps is as detailed and up to date and apple has poured billions into that.
I primarily use an iPhone as a daily too so I'm used to things looking pretty modern and for the most part just working without too much bother so diving into some open source stuff when I first installed Graphene was an experience haha. Took a bit of getting used to.
Now days when I'm using my pixel I go open source and privacy first where I can but also make use of Graphene's sick permissions and if I find a really good app on the playstore that id rather use I'll just deny network, or use storage scopes or whatever to make it work for me. The true beauty of this OS. And if we get more cool permissions options in the future then it's just gonna get better. Can't wait.
I got assistant voice typing working on gboard too, where it punctuates for you and everything, I made a post about it if you wanna check it out.
