Hello everyone, been using graphene for about a year now and it's amazing during that time I've used the futo keyboard and gboard both with network permissions off but access to the microphone because I like voice typing. Futo keyboard is okay but it's not the greatest.
I generally just use gboard because it's pretty accurate and the voice typing is really good. For the longest time, the assistant voice typing toggle has been grayed out and impossible to turn on and I was under the impression that it just flat out didn't work on graphene OS but randomly today I noticed the microphone had the Google rainbow colours and it's been activated???
I checked the Play store and there hasn't been any updates that I can see mentioning this and I haven't received any updates of that app for the last few days so it hasn't been a random overnight update that's enabled this
It's really damn awesome and I'm not complaining but I haven't granted gboard any internet permission at all apart from when I downloaded the speech files to get voice typing working but that was months ago and immediately revoked the internet permission after that.
The only thing that I randomly did today was Grant internet permission and microphone permission to the speech recognition and synthesis app from Google because I was trying out Google translate's conversation feature and wanted to see if it will work properly. That's the only thing that I've done that could possibly explain the sudden activation of Google assistant voice typing.
I revoked the permissions from the speech synthesis app just to see what would happen and Google assistant voice typing still works!
Can anyone shed any light on this or has anyone else got assistant voice typing to work??
Again not complaining. It's so bloody cool and as far as I know it's offline because I haven't granted Gboard the internet permission.
