MEATER Wireless Meat Thermometer app doesn't work

DeletedUser629 afaik, accessing bluetooth devices requires a location access for app in android system.

upd: not for newer api, it seems, but since most android devices are really bad in getting os updates, location permission would remain with us for a long time, i guess.

vlad I was taking that permission literally. That clears things up. But I suspect it still can leak location home if given network access.

I may have been sensitised by my bank's app. A couple of days ago I installed it on GOS without Google services as a test run. It worked, but I couldn't stand the interface (designed by a 5yo) and the "we take what we want, do what we want, you have no rights" EULA and anti-privacy policy didn't sit well with the "we use location to protect you" claim. I uninstalled the app and got locked out of my account because I no longer had the app for 2fa. Had to call the bank and BS (the app didn't work on my phone lie) my way back in.

Yes I was surprised too. But its locked up in my private space, so I'll give it a try. I guess it must need location to be able to connect to the thermometer

Update on the MEATER;

Know this isn't a BBQ forum, but for anybody that finds this thread one day and had bought a MEATER.

So yes, the MEATER thermometers work without Google Play Services. You just must allow all the permissions. I'm currently cooking a chicken now on the smoker, and MEATER is working great on GrapheneOS! So I'm happy, knowing that I didn't need GPlay services.
