GrapheneOS, Android Auto doesnt show my apps

Hello,

I'm having a big problem with GrapheneOS and Android Auto.

It starts up perfectly fine, but it doesn't show any of my apps that work with Android Auto.
Apps are from Aurora Store, f.e. Magic Earth, Electroverse, Air Electric, EnBW, ....

I've granted all permissions in the Android Auto settings.

It worked perfectly on my old smartphone with LineageOS, and all the apps were visible.

Do I need to grant anything else for the apps to be found?

That's because Android Auto only shows apps installed from Google Play Store by default. There are numerous threads discussing this :)

The solution is to go to Settings > Apps > Sandboxed Google Play > Android Auto > Android Auto Settings > Tap Version number 7 times > OK > 3 dots top right > Developer settings > check Unknown sources > turn off Dev settings

userofgos This doesn't work for all apps though, for example Organic Maps or Comaps won't work unless downloaded from the actual Play Store app for whatever reason (doesn't work when from GH, fdroid or Aurora store).

Plus sometimes builds are not the same and do not include libraries for Android Auto when they come from Fdroid for example

I haven't tested it, but I believe with Shizuku you can trick the system into thinking that an app was installed in the Play Store, so maybe that would trick Android Auto into displaying apps that you installed from Aurora. But beware, Shizuku needs developer mode and wireless debugging enabled, so you would be decreasing the security of your device, and Shizuku will have way more access than any normal app. Also, changing the app's install origin might affect auto-updates. That's why I haven't tried it.

What I do is have a user profile that's exclusive for Android Auto, with play services, the play store, and only the apps that I use in Android Auto: Maps, Waze and Qobuz. And I like that I don't get any distracting notification from messaging apps or email while driving. And that since it's a separate user profile, I've only added the contacts that I'm likely to call: my wife, parents, siblings and road assistance, so I'm OK with giving my car's bluetooth and android auto access to my contacts.
