Call waiting not working

I have a new Pixel 9a with GOS on it. The default phone app has a setting for "Call waiting", which I have happily been using on my old 3a. On the 9a, it's turned on - but it doesn't work. No notification whatsoever about incoming calls during a call. The other caller immediately gets the busy tone. I have tried to toggle "call waiting" off and on, and restart the phone, but it refuses to notify about new calls.

I have tried some other phone apps, such as SimpleTools Dialler and Fossify Phone, but they don't seem to have this setting - and there is no call waiting notification when using them either.

Please help?

EDIT: I have been able to verify call waiting to be working fine with my carrier. This suggests a carrier related issue, now without teaching you to suck eggs, can you double check that you have the feature available in your carriers account settings first, ensure then that the stock dialler app is selected as default across all users, and that the setting is enabled, if in a secondary user, ensure that this has telephone/sms granted to it via SETTINGS > SYSTEM > USERS

Then we can go from there. This is definitely not a GrapheneOS related issue as I've been able to confirm call waiting works on the latest release on my Pixel 8.

I appreciate you may not want to but knowing the carrier would help also.

My carrier says that "call waiting" is enabled by them by default. And it has worked fine on my old Pixel 3a that I used until just a few days ago - with the same SIM card.
And I am using the default Phone app that came with GOS, having it set as default. There's only the main account on the phone for now, no extras accounts.

Considering that this works on the old Pixel 3a (same carrier and same SIM card), and on your Pixel 8 with the latest update - could there be something with GOS and Pixel 9a?

moony try resetting carrier config via:

SETTINGS > SYSTEM > RESET OPTIONS > RESET MOBILE NETWORK

Then reboot to see if this helps.

If not the next step would be to check your APN settings with those provided on your carriers support pages.

Thank you! I have reset the carrier config, and now it seems to work.

I have played further with this a little bit, and it turns out that on the 9a, "call waiting" works when the "preferred network" is set to 4G, but not on 3G. On the old Pixel 3a, it works on both networks. So it can't be a carrier or SIM card issue.

I have better coverage on 3G at my location, so I would prefer using that, but perhaps that is not possible with the 9a...? Do you have any ideas about this?
